Workshop: Writing Movieverse Clark/Lois by Htbthomas

Apr 16, 2007 20:06

This week's workshop is by htbthomas and explores the movieverse version of the Clark Kent/Lois Lane pairing, touching on issues like super-sex, inconsistent canon, fanon versus canon, and...ah, I probably had you at "super-sex," didn't I?

Wow! That was really informative and very clear. You definitely raised some quite interesting points, especially since I haven't written a Superman fanfiction yet. If I ever attempt one, I know where to come to make sure I've got everything right! :D

I seriously wish people would give this sort of help for The Legend Of Zelda, because that's seriously one messed up and complicated timeline, if there even is one. Nintendo are so darn vague! >:[

But back to the point, great, great essay :D Having only really entered the Superman fandom after seeing SR, I must admit it really was Jason that really got me interested. You were right on that point XD. And when I went to watch the Donner movies, that got me hooked on Clois. I hope one day that I'll be knowledgable enough to write a Superman fanfiction. Thanks for writing such a helpful essay! :)

Whee! Another person comes over to read!

If I knew the slightest thing about Zelda, I would be happy to help, but alas...

I would love for you to write Superman fanfic! *twirls*

Thank you, my darling twin for the comments!

And of course, my ever curious eye caught upon this: many of the issues of the fandom -- is there an issue I didn't cover that you wish I had? Do tell - I would love to address it! If I'm just being a doofus, e-whack me. :)

Talk about covering all the bases!

Woo-ow.

Helluva an essay, Barbara. You touched on everything that makes Clois ...well, Clois! Not only that, but you also brought in some stuff that I was not expecting a Clois movieverse essay to touch upon at all, such as Larry Niven's essay and Pre-Crisis and Post-Crisis and all that DC Comics mumbo-jumbo I would never expect a Marvel girl to know; you put some serious thought and effort into this essay and it shows.

And you already know this, but you're the writer who forced me to reexamine Richard's character--I currently admire and respect his character a whole heck of a lot, a far, FAR cry from my earlier sentiments, and you know it! I'm sure my early reviews of DV were pretty clear on that point...

Stupendous work, Barb. Truly. :)

Cheers!

Well, I must admit that there's something about Clois that makes the meta pour out of me. I did quite a lot of research on this subject in the course of planning Deja Vu, and the hours spent discussing this with my betas and friends didn't hurt either. :)

Was all the Richard-turnaround helpful for Little Secrets? 'Cause I can't imagine anyone rooting for Richana without wanting to see his happiness.

Oh, of course! The love I have for Richana I owe completely to your Richard--I now want only the best for him, haha!

I wish I didn't have to run off, Brian, because...

challenging to limit my comments... Indeed? Please, if you have the time or inclination, I would love to hear your comments in more detail. Goodness knows I am not the last word on this subject...

I will reply properly to this comment later -- after getting some much-needed sleep.

I'm glad you came to read this, Brian. You are one of the writers (along with Tandrelmairon and a few others) who are more interested in the technical/plot aspects of the story. I am a shipper through and through, and that's my strength as a writer, but I love to read intricate stories like yours that I will never be able to match in the same way.

I'll also speak to the verisimilitude comment you made... it's very true, isn't it? We will only suspend our disbelief just so far. And I love stories which feature clever ways to explain these holes.

Thanks again!

Thanks! I did spend a lot of time thinking about and debating this with fellow fans. I hope you got something out of it!
