THE PRINCESS AND THE PILOT:

HOW DC COULD MAKE

WONDER WOMAN/STEVE TREVOR

CLASSIC AGAIN:

SUCCESS (PAST AND FUTURE)

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the Wonder Woman/Steve Trevor pairing.  :)  What I’d like to do is discuss what made the couple a success in the past and could make them a success again, what I try to do in my own writing of this ( Read more... )

Excellent work! I was impressed as a young girl, discovering the WW show and learning about her relationship with Steve Trevor. This definitely helps fill in the blanks I had for what happened DC-wise since then. Although... Wasn't the Golden Age WW married to Steve? Or is that ret-conned?

Also, I squee-d so much when Steve showed up on JLU. *sigh* I hoped that some of that awesome tension would be reflected in the comics too, but erm.. replacing Steve with the blond Nemesis isn't the same thing :(

Though I haven't read all of your Diana/Steve fics, but the ones I have are fantastic :D

Thank you, m'dear! I left out the show because I wanted to concentrate on the comics, but that show was a favorite of mine and still is. :)

In the 1950s, the Golden Age heroes became those of Earth-Two, and, yes, Diana and Steve of that world eventually were married and had a daughter, Lyta.

Now, of course, all of the pre-COIE history is said to have never existed by DC. *sticks out tongue at DC*

Also, I squee-d so much when Steve showed up on JLU. *sigh* I hoped that some of that awesome tension would be reflected in the comics too, but erm.. replacing Steve with the blond Nemesis isn't the same thing :(No kidding! He's the wrong blond, I say ( ... )

Hi! I really enjoyed this essay. As I'd mentioned before in a comment on your "Shattered Glass" story, I'd never really been a big fan of Diana & Steve. But after reading your fanfic, and this essay, I appreciate the relationship in a new light.

I really did enjoy the update of Wonder Woman they did right after COIE. It was fun seeing Diana as an "newbie" in man's world, and I liked that they really linked her more strongly with Greek mythology. I'd really like to see DC keep some of that flavor of WW while also giving us a modern Steve/Diana relationship that takes the best of the Golden Age and updates it for the 21st century. And, despite my general lack of interest in Steve in the past, like kitsune, I also squeed when I saw him in "Savage Time" on JLU. That was a great guest spot. Too bad they couldn't carry it further.

Thanks again for the great essay! I've gotta subscribe to this superhero-muses group now...

Yay! I'm very glad to hear that, Sandia! :)

I think that would be perfect! Get the relationship blended in with post-COIE. Of course, you never know with DC. They could do a complete reboot.

Excellent essay!

Most of my Steve/Diana originally came from the show and there was a lot of comic canon I did not know! So, thank you for providing so much background info!

Like you, I also like that they're both very good looking individuals. Theirs really is a fairy-tale romance and both parties have to be the cause of envy. It just makes better sense! ;)

And, there may not be a lot of Steve/Diana fics right now, but you've started a wonderful trend. I hope more writers will remember their long lost love and start writing them!

Heh, we're being bad girls by promoting looks, but who cares? ;)

I certainly hope so! May you be inspired? ;)
