How to Write Dick/Tim

Richard Grayson and Timothy Drake. They have a lot in common, but they are also very different and there are enough inconsistencies in canon to drive a writer crazy.

I liked it. You really showed how a relationship between the two of them would work. I'm not much of a slasher, but this is one of the few slash pairings I will read (the first ever slash pairing I read, I believe) and I've actually been tempted to write. Maybe I should give it a try sometime... If I do, I have a feeling I'll be referring back to this.

Great job.

The issue with Cannon is one of the reasons why I have yet to wright about Dick, I really don't know where his characterization is suppose to be. I know I have seen references to him being more hapyp go lucky but I just see this more dark, brooding aspects since OYL.

And yea for dom Tim, I totally agree with that. I write a lot of Tim and Kon fics, and never see how Tim was the submissive one in that relationship.

Canon? Feh! ;)

Since canon is so muddled itself, it might be easier to pick parts of the boys' personalities and stick with them, no matter what canon says.

I like the descriptions of both boys here, Lady, and it doesn't bother me that Tim might be more mature and darker than Dick. First off, I don't believe in a truly dark Dick Grayson, despite (there's that pesky canon again!) how he's been written in recent years. Tim may take after Bruce more, and that's fine. Dick has always (at least in my mind) had similarities to Bruce (and now to Tim) but is different in that there is some inner sunshine there that has been dimmed due to canon, but is still there somewhere!

I suppose the issue of maturity comes from Dick flitting from girl-to-girl, but that would classify most of the male population, wouldn't it? ;) Tim has gravitas while Dick has sunshine, and that may be the biggest difference between them and touch upon people's perception of maturity.

A good job, Lady!

Wow! I was aware of most of this, as far as the comparison of their characters goes, but was surprised to be made aware of this:

"The difference is that Dick's friends seem to come back from the dead while Tim's don't."

Damn. Seems pretty obvious, but when you think about it, it (and the difference in the tone of their teenage years you mentioned) makes for great contrast and something to draw them together over.

I'm just barely scratching the surface with these characters, myself, so thanks for the tidbits! Now I know how to finish up "Confrontation..." ^_~

Bravo!!!

Hontesly, this was great. I loved how you touched on canon being beyond insane and never consistant. And you did wonderful showing how they work as lovers.
