TS1: The Quest for the Beanstalk - Part 2

Jan 27, 2014 12:19

Yesterday I posted about playing TS1, and how I was trying to get a beanstalk and go to a secret lot where you can steal beans from a giant. Well, since then, I've played a lot more, and now have more TS1 adventures to share!

Now, I read up on it all last night, and discovered that beanstalks apparently can't grow high enough to reach the giant in the sky on non-magical property.

Which meant all of this effort at the Hicks was getting us nowhere.

It costs at least a thousand magicoins to move to Magic Town, and I had to get Claire on that straightaway. So it was giving shows and duelling all over again.

Fun fact, doing the shows pays better than duelling. I never knew that before this challenge.

Also, one of the dogs died once the family moved to Magic Town. Apparently I forgot to put in a dog bowl.

Yes, I am a terrible simmer. I don't play with pets that often.

Also, Mortimer and Claire's baby, Eldena, got taken away by the social worker. Apparently she was neglected, even though I had Bonehilda on the case.

Let's cheer the family up with more magical chaos! Like a spell that puts money EVERYWHERE, and a perfect garden charm that will annoy the gnomes because they think they're much better at the job.

Truth is, the gnomes are drunk on the nectar.

Eventually, the beanstalks begin to form. Apparently we have so much magic this time it qualifies for multiple beanstalks, which is exciting!

Fun fact, they don't grow in order. Like, the first one to arrive didn't get very tall, it was actually one of the later beanstalks. Pretty cool, no? It keeps you guessing.

Also, ability crystals started to appear. This pink one taught Claire how to teleport - and that added to the spell count!

Which made for more beanstalks, ability crystals, solar-powered flowers, and those ugly useless tree roots.

I also figured out a solution to the enchantment fires - fire alarms on the outside of the building!

No more sims shall have to die because of back-fired gnomes!

How many beanstalks is too many beanstalks?

The answer is that you can obviously never have too many beanstalks. Or crystals. Or gnomes. Or anything magical, really.

It was 1am when I played this, I was feeling uninspired.

And then all of a sudden, one of the beanstalks was big enough to climb.

Are you as excited as I am?

Lucy in the sky with diamonds! Will Wright in the sky with beans!

This is by far one of the most surrealist things I have ever encountered in sims. Quite possibly the best secret function EVER.

I had Claire steal some beans, and then wander over to Will.

You can 'view' the sleeping giant, and after Claire was finished applauding her sleeping creator, a little blue pop-up came up in the middle of the screen.

"Thanks for playing sims!"

Well, I was grinning like an idiot. You know when you complete a game, and the credits roll up? This is what this felt like. Sims has no end, and yet I feel like I've completed it. I kind of wish there was this crazy stuff in TS2 and TS3.

So that's the adventures with the giant over. What now?

...actually, I've never had a sim become a 5-star superstar using the superstar expansion, maybe I should do that next!

:)
