this was an interesting post and i am intrigued and may attempt to answer it too... but i wanted to comment most as i went out to lunch with some colleagues, and one of them has a stomach thingy, so he is very picky about food, so, when asked where we would go, i assumed we would just do 'american' food - if he hadn't been there the other person and i might have gone for something 'ethnic'. but we ended up going to a pasta place, and there was quite the discussion as to whether that was 'ethnic' or not. can something be half-ethnic? it was homemade fresh pasta. i wouldn't call it american. at the same time, they sure as shit didn't dry it on my mother's bed and cut it with scissors like my italian grandmother did. what happens when it's in the middle?

just amused me since you had pasta too! lol

WHOA SORRY EDIT BUT I MISSED 'DARMOK AND JILAD AT TENAGRA' THE FIRST TIME I READ THIS. only like my favoritest ever episode. and i knew most of your 5 things, guess that makes me part of your culture, neat-o!
