This opera was a truly impressive new work, an adaptation of the book (which I've never read, which was also adapted into an award-winning film that I haven't seen). The last time I saw a new opera it was Oscar, which sadly was dreadful, and I feared the worst here, but luckily my fears were for naught

When my mother was dying I kept my phone on all the time. Once or twice I got yelled at too just for looking at it even though I had it on vibrate. Each time I thought about giving the person a brief explanation but when I looked at their expression I could see they relished being The Phone Police so very damn much I just let it drop.
