there are 3 engaged ladies on my friends list (and even more future fiancees?). i purchased books that i didn't really use. (the etiquette guide was probably the most useful for me. as well as the checkbox timeline in the knot book.) sadly, the anti-bride guide wasn't helpful at all, and the wedding details book had nice pictures, but the ideas ( Read more... )

hrmm...I used the anti-bride guide and I liked it quite a lot, why didn't you find it useful? (just curious :) )

oopps...you're right, I had the planner. hehe It's stuffed full of our wedding stuff, a priceless scrapbook of sorts now.

And, yeah, if no one wanted them I'd try to return them and get something you wanted.

yeah, i was so excited to see the anti bride ones since you loved yours so much. and then when i was halfway through the book, i was stumped as to why you'd find it useful. unfortunately, the bookstore only had the 2 that i got, and this one has the little pockets as well as yours, so i had no reason to think you were using a different book. *bonks forehead* sometimes buying in the store is not as good as buying online.

(and an edit to my previous comment... my anti bride guide has some noticeable wear that might invalidate my story to the bookstore. :-/ that sucks cause it was almost 20 bucks. bleh.)

i should have gone to the library instead. that gives me an idea. maybe i'll donate the ones that don't get snatched up/brought back to a bookstore to my local library. that'll reduce my clutter and help someone else in the process.

I have the anti-bride stuff and really wound up hating it. for all of the talking about breaking tradition and going against the grain, the book still assumed that you had the cash and time to blow on a big wild expensive party complete with wedding consultant. And there is nothing wrong with a white dress even if your hipster friends don't like it. Right now even pulling stuff together for an "insurance purposes" wedding on Friday has gotten far far too crazy. Eric and I almost went off to Vegas over New Year's, to be honest....

:-( just do what you need to do.
your parents can realise their mistakes later. right now, it's your time.

I hope that they do. I keep telling them that they need to trust me on this--suppose that it is just going to take time. I just feel like everything is so in flux right now. I have a whole life to pack up and get out here, and then hope I can find work.

Right now I am just very overwhelmed and want this whole thing to be over. We're still thinking of having a bigger reception/party later this summer, but we also think that taking the money we would have spent and going on a cruise in the winter for a few weeks would be far more worthwhile.

That's really nice of you to offer. Umm. I will gladly take any useful books off your hands. The ettiquette guide seems most interesting.

Maybe we can make a trade?

E-mail me at wander999@aol.com. I can come pick it up whenever.

ok. :-) i think i'll still try to return the details book, because i don't think even you would like it. it's the kind of thing where you can grab a coffee or tea and sit and flip through without purchasing and get all you need from it right at the store. definitely not worth the 18 bucks i paid for it.
