Title: Rain and Pain
Pairing: Hankyung/Kyuhyun
Genre: Angst
He pulled you close to him and held you tight, lips meeting, breaths mixing, and arms in a tangled mess. The comforting silence was accompanied with the soft pitter-patter of falling rain on the gravel; the unspoken words translated into erratic heartbeats, both hearts beating in unison, and eyes with meaning so deep that no one but the two of you can understand.
The rain fell hard on the both of you, his wet locks plastered to his cheeks, and your bangs falling over your eyes, obscuring your view of him. You tried to shake away your bangs without letting go of him, and you bet you looked weird doing that because he laughed at how you looked; his chuckle deep and resonant, playing on your heartstrings, and you thought you heard the most enchanting melody playing somewhere at the back of your head.
Those mesmerizing eyes of his studied you intently, you looked beautiful, he said, laugh lines bracketing his sensuous mouth. You would have laugh at his absurd words if he was a stranger because you know you don’t look beautiful with hair sticking awkwardly to your face and shirt plastered to your body; showing off the ribs and pale skin that you tried to hide underneath your oversized shirt.
But you didn’t, because he says he never lies, and you believe him.
Your cheeks heated at the unexpected compliment and he smiled, his eyes shining brighter than a wonder wall of stars, and you swore you saw an arch of rainbow, all seven colours reflected clearly in his eyes.
And then everything changed in just a matter of seconds.
His face contorted, features scrunching up as if he was in great pain. What’s wrong? You asked, fear in your voice as he doubled over, coughing violently, a rasping cough that took a long time to quiet. Hyung?
I’ve to go now. He said in a strained whisper, take care of yourself, Kyuhyun. I love you, remember that, I love you. He turned around and ran. You found yourself running after him, chasing after him, you have no idea what had just happened, and so you ran; tripping over pants too long for you, and shoelaces that came undone. Your haste had the feel of a nightmare -panting urgency in stationary time- as your feet carried you forward step after step; Hyung, you screamed, but no matter how much you run, no matter how fast you run, you could never catch up with him, as if he was something you could never reach; as if you were grasping nothing but thin air.
Hyung! You screamed over and over and over and over again, until your throat turned hoarse, you voice broke and your lungs burned.
But he never turned back.
Hyung... You whispered, eyes on the spot at where he had disappeared.
You looked around, searching for his figure, or for his shadow that might be lurking somewhere, pulled long by the streetlights, but you see no one. You focused your mind on the sounds instead, but all you heard was the droning sounds of automobiles two streets away, and then nothing but silence.
Hyung? Your voice fearful and barely audible over the pouring rain. Where are you? Don’t leave me here...
The howling wind was the only answer to your questions.
Your body became rigid with fear when reality was thrust before your eyes, harsh, merciless; the quiet of abandonment slowly creeping into your senses.
Then, realisation slapped you, fast and hard across the cheek before you even had the time to comprehend, to even breathe. You gasped, letting air fill your lungs, but you’re still breathless, your chest still hurts. The ache in your heart is like a blotch of ink on white paper, spreading and tainting your pure, innocent, non-beating heart; and diffusing to the rest of your body.
Drawing a ribbon of breath, you tried to block any tears that may be lurking like memories behind your eyelids, and the loneliness that strikes you forcefully on your skin, the ache that could and would never ever leave. The cold rain fell mercilessly, hitting you hard on your non-existent flesh; you could feel the coldness seeping into your pores, but hollowly, as if you were a doll left and abandoned in the rain.
You wished you could forget, begged that you can stop remembering, prayed that all that had happened was just a dream, and hoped that you are dead just so that you can be with him, again.
