when a terrible crime (usually murder or kidnapping or horrific abuse/assault) occurs in a small community and the media interviews people and they say, i can't believe something like that could happen here!?

oh yeah? this kind of stuff happens everywhere all the time. it can and does happen anywhere to anyone. open your fucking eyes.

i was talking to my grandmother yesterday, and she told me that she had just found out that the 19 year old son of the woman who lives across the street committed suicide. This really is tragic for the woman, who looks in on my grandmother on a nearly daily basis. I've known them for years now, since he was fifteen or so, and have invited them over for meals several times. He would mow my grandmother's lawn in the summer and shovel her snow in the winter. It's shocking to me that this happened, and, as someone who has lost a son, do not envy what his poor mother is going through right now
