Ah! someone else with the quinoa! What's with the quinoa? Where does one get it? How did I not know about this before?
Now that I've somewhat regained my sanity, I have to ask, what would one use in place of quinoa if one is unable to find it? I was thinking either bulgar wheat, brown rice, or barley, but of course, I'm not familiar with quinoa, so I wouldn't know.
This was actually my first time making quinoa. I am a couscous girl usually. Any of what you mentioned would be a good substitute for quinoa, as would couscous.
I got mine at a supermarket in the international section. It is also sold at organic markets, a la wild by nature and whole foods.
I will say though, that it was very tasty and I plan to make it again.
Hmmmmm, I guess it kinda is. It's kind of a Middle Eastern "fusion" if you will, as I believe shawarma is actually Turkish and depending on which exact spices are in ras el hanout, depends on which country it would reflect.

Yeah, lamb gets pretty expensive here, too. I bought this lamb on sale when I made this.
Shwarma spices go nice with chicken and turkey, too.
