Day 16, 10p.m.

The infirmary is full, so Gwendal makes his way back to the room he had been quartered in before he and Conrad left. It will be painful to sleep there alone, in a place so full of strange and wonderful memories, but if he is honest with himself, he has nowhere else to go. A small, quiet part of his mind hopes that Murata will come ( Read more... )

He had forced himself to get up and continue his paperwork, after Alford had left. But his mind wasn't on the task at hand, and he found himself grateful when the failing light gave him an excuse to head back to his rooms (Of course he could have lit candles, but why waste them when he wasn't going to get any work done anyway?).

He stares at the ceiling in the dark, wanting to feel sleepy, but his mind is whirling with Alfords. He should try to reconcile himself with Al's double, but he doesn't think he can bring himself to face that at the moment. Then a loud knock on the door startles him. Alford? But the action seemed far too confident to suit the human.

Gwendal grins. There are no tell-tale scuttling sounds of people caught in the act, so it's probably safe to enter.

He opens the door a little and pokes his head into the room. "Only me," he says as casually as possible. "They kicked me out of the infirmary."

"Oh." Gwen... The mazoku's presence is a sudden reminder of what else he has lost, just by coming to this place. His Gwen-chan... It seems almost like a dream now, that time. More real is the time he spent with this Gwendal, but he cannot not allow himself that weakness again. Not when Al... He gives a heavy sigh and rolls over, wanting to be asleep now.

It looks like the less affectionate Alford hasn't returned from battle yet. Shinou knows where the other one is, or who with.

[Misery loves company, I guess.] Gwendal puts on a pair of shorts - [How he's changed me, even in a few days...] - and gets into the other bed, facing toward Gunter.

The silence stretches out. Eventually he can't take it any more; he hasn't had a proper conversation, without the strain of secrets and abuse, in days. "How're you holding up, Gunter?"
