Apparently an icon of Trent Reznor licking a microphone (found here) is considered obscene by the LJ Abuse TeamI fully agree with them. Microphones aren't for licking. Well, the original does look obscene and that's the whole point. LJ's going after people who have obscene default icons, I guess it started with all that breastfeeding bullshit. Whining about it's silly, all they're asking is the default should be changed, it's not like they want it removed completely.

Yes, but why should anybody be threatened just for a default icon that's up for interpertation? Yes, in the end it's "just the internet" and all, but I think if you're using a service and following the rules (the Trent Reznor icon isn't breaking a single rule since there is no nudity or extreme violence) there's no reason why you should be banned or suspended or forced to change something.

Of course, there are also people who will change anyway to avoid drama, hence the ice cream cone icon!

It's simple. If Livejournal doesn't say "or we'll ban you," people won't do shit. I figure enough people whined about that icon that they finally decided to say it's too vulgar. I've never even seen it and it doesn't bother me, but telling the guy who sent the email "You're just jealous he's not licking your penis"...well, that wasn't smart.

The new company lj merged with is trying to make the site more kid-friendly, so I guess that's what's going on. Because, you know, kids won't notice the nasty icons when they click the link to see what else the person has. Roffle, logic.

But why would they want to force somebody to change an icon that isn't breaking a single rule?

And why is an icon of a man licking a microphone deemed innappropriate when communities like this are protected? Nothing against anal, but if LJ Abuse thinks a man licking a mic is too much for kids to handle, theyr might want to work on cleaning up the communities first.
