Vehicle suggestions?

The time is coming, sooner rather than later, to replace the current car. I'm interested in people's experiences and recommendations about the usual things- good on gas, reliable and decent winter handling are pretty much the only must-have criteria. I'm also curious about anyone's experience with the Subaru Outback or similar car-wagon types.

When I bought my current car, I cared most about reliability, so I bought an Accord. It's a good car. I guess at the time I still hated Priuses. Now I can't really imagine buying anything else, due to my concern about peak oil. Electrics still seem stupid expensive. Global oil production may have already peaked, meaning gas can only get more expensive. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/best-worst.shtml

Is there anything that doesn't have decent winter handling? Well, okay, Lotus Elise, Camaro, Corvette. But I'd expect good winter handling from almost any car with winter tires. My M3 was fine, rear wheel drive.
