This is a reminder about our annual Beginning of Summer Pool and Barbeque Party on Saturday, June 30, 2012 from 2PM until whenever in Melrose, MA. RSVPs are appreciated but not required.
As most of you already know, the party is likely to be Very Crowded. So we're encouraging people with young children to attend on the early side. And as always, we're looking for folks who'd like to volunteer to help with grill and kitchen stuff, trash and supply changeover, T station shuttle duty, etc. It takes a lot of work to run these parties and we really appreciate whatever help we can get.
Feel free to bring acoustic musical instruments so that group music may happen. Once it's dark out, there will be firespinning. Firespinners should contact me for planning this part of the festivities, particularly about being fire marshal and having a number of people to be fire safeties while others are spinning. If there are drummers who wish to have a drum circle to accompany the firespinners, please let me know.
The Standard Party Disclaimers:
We'll provide hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, and general beverages & munchies, plus two hot grills and a swimming pool. Please feel free to bring whatever food or beverage you'd like to share. Alcohol will be present, please enjoy responsibly. Well-behaved and supervised children are welcome, but be aware that the house is not at all kidproof. Children must be supervised by a parent or other specific caregiver in the pool area at all times. A bathing suit or reasonable equivalent is required; our neighbors are mundane and can see into the pool area.
The main bedroom upstairs will be quiet space for nursing mothers and other folks who need a few minutes of less crowd and noise. This is not kid play space or romantic space. For the comfort and enjoyment of all attending, we ask for thoughtful and appropriate control to be exerted over the behavior of children. Please be aware of what your kids are doing, and how it may be affecting other people at the party. If this is likely to be difficult, consider leaving them at home with a babysitter. One indoor-only cat is in residence, medicate yourselves as needed.
Please do not cross-post or forward this invite. If you'd like to bring friends from off-list, please let us know and be sure to introduce them to us when they arrive. Make sure that they're folks who will be comfortable with a geek/pagan/poly crowd.
Parking Info: On-street parking is readily available all around our area, but Melrose has become very strict about the No Parking On-Street After 2AM rule and now will ticket cars. Waivers are available but they require one to be filled out for each separate car. (Don't get me started about this.) We'll have a stack of waiver forms and would prefer to deliver them to the police station earlier rather than later in the evening.
Please avoid parking on the little side street by our house and be considerate of the neighbors, especially late at night. In particular, when leaving late at night if your car or bike has loud pipes, please resist the temptation to show them off. We value having a peaceable relationship with our neighbors. Likewise, when watching the firespinning please stay off the neighbors' lawns. There is no smoking anywhere on the property. Crash space is only available by special arrangement.
Hope to see you there!
