Home Is Where the Heart Is, pt 2 of 3

Diederich paused at the door to Corinthiahn's apartment and realized that he really hadn't put much thought into the details of this plan. He'd been rather hasty, honestly.

Here he was at the door. Now what? Knock? Kick it down and make a big commotion? And what would he do with Corinthiahn's lover? Tell them to leave (and alert a guard)? Kill them too? Diederich had no taste for killing unarmed civilians. With Corinthiahn being the obvious exception.

He knocked.

Several heartbeats passed, and just as Diederich was starting to contemplate the best way to kick in a door if you wanted to be quiet about it, the door opened a crack.

"Hello?"

He could smell Corinthiahn on the girl, could smell his sweat and... It gagged him, the familiarity, and his attempts at humanity or honor drained away. He shoved the door hard, sent the girl stumbling back from it. He stepped in, shut the door behind him with a terrifying calmness, and then held out a hand and killed the girl with one crushing blast of cold and rot. She was still crumpling to the floor as he strode past her to find Corinthiahn.
