I am listening to 'Cluster One' (The division Bell) by Pink Floyd for the first time thus far. It was amazingly feeling like some sort of a Carnatic Fusion album to me. I've not heard much Pink Floyd except the 'Animals' and 'Dark side of the Moon' album (and that was all because I liked the 'psychedellic' sounds and the 'patterns' in them

The theme of Division Bell is to do with feedback, and communication. (Hence a lot of emphasis on talking, communicating through the album).
There's an interesting take on this, based on Norbert Wiener's work in a very simple form at http://www.angelfire.com/co/1x137/dbell.html

My point was that its interesting how pink floyd (or is it the LSD?) arrived at the same 'sequence' thats used by so many Carnatic folks when rendering Kalyani. Both gave the same level of 'high' that kalyani gives.

The lyrics from Division Bell are killing. In fact, while I love Pink Floyd for the arrangement of music, their lyrics are phenomenal, because it's almost a commentary on their times.
Bharathiyar is exceptional. But in recent times, Vairamuthu sometimes comes up with brilliant lines. His analogies, and metaphors are very image oriented.. hhmm.

I see...
What does thou thinketh on Shakti? (No, Not Remember Shakti, but the original Shakti). Diggeth?
But in recent times, Vairamuthu sometimes comes up with brilliant lines.
Sure. but i disagree on the 'recent times' if you are talking about 'filmi' music. I haven't heard any good lyrics from him in a long time. 'Ithu Oru Pon Malai Pozhuthu' is so 'rasichu' (maybe he experienced?) and ezhuthified :) At the same time This isn't just humour. It seriously works with Variamuthu.

Yeah! I love yaman kalyani. Thats what got me started on Carnatic, infact! I was just talking with nehavish the other day over e-mail on how beautiful Yaman is, inspite of the fact that its got, theoritically, 4 notes close by - the pa ma2 ma1 and da3. But it never sounds "ugly" like, say, kanakangi ;) but finally all that matters is how the artist/composer handles a given ragam. Have you heard "Mogam ennum theeyil en manam venthu venthu urugum" from Sindu bhairavi? Thats kanakangi! but it doesn't sound bad _at_all_.
