So while other people my age are gainfully employed, or are in grad school/law school/medical school, or are taking a really neat year to TEACH ABROAD, I am instead sitting at home trying to figure out what to do with my life, applying to jobs with no real rhyme or reason, and watching a lot of television ( Read more... )

I kind of hate pure snark blogs anyway, and GWTW -- flaws and all -- is too good to earn the amount of snark you'd have to generate for its 1,000 page length. A reactions blog is one thing, but snarking for snark's sake is ... easy.

Yeah, I don't think anything is too good for snark.

My reactions are pretty much set to four settings regardless: flail, indifference, rage and snark. The blog would most likely be comprised of all them.

I am interested, however: what entails "snarking for snark's sake"? Is there any other kind?

I snark on stuff when and if I have something funny to say, but I never look at something as snark fodder. It diminishes the honesty of my response and flattens humor by making it predictable.

I took a critical reviewing class in J-school, and I think the single most important thing the teacher ever told us was that snark is easy, and it becomes a kind of trap, defining your responses for you. He also said the single hardest thing to do was to write an interesting, insightful review of something you loved.

I have to say I don't agree, but it is an interesting perspective.

GIRL I HAVE TO REASSESS. I HAVE GONE THROUGH SEVERAL JUDGMENTS ON HER.

(1) Scarlett is the best ever!
(2) Scarlett is morally questionable but still the best everrrr!
(3) ... Maybe Scarlett should simmer down.
(4) OMG SIT DOWN.

So I'm rereading to see how I view her this time.

I was obviously a very permissive kid because I was like THAT'S RIGHT SCARLETT STEAL YOUR SISTER'S BEAU FOR THE GOOD OF THE PLANTATION.

I read it when I was 10, so I join you in the too-young thing.

I kind of love GWTW, and Scarlett, so I'll also be surprised if you can snark all of it but I'll read along. :)

I'll be surprised if I can snark all of it too- I mostly brought up snark because that's general my default reaction, but I think it will be a genuine reactions blog. Especially since my love for Rhett Butler is near endless.
