Before my grandma got hurt in 2010 I was a substitute teacher full time and going to school online part time. Well when she got hurt I had to leave my job and drop out of school in order to take care of her. To have a successful blog, you need to be able to inspire and inform people, i.e., you need to be saying something that brings people back. Being negative won't work, generally, at building an audience. You also need good grammar and punctuation skills.

LJ is a blogging platform. It's strength is that there's already a huge community of people who might follow you. On another blogging site, you start from scratch.

Read the blogs of successful bloggers and see how they do it. And if you google "how to blog" you'll get tons of tips. :)
