Helen’s hand’s already on the doorknob but walking back into her old life after two years is harder than she’d thought. See, if you think about S1, there are so many scenes which show that Nick constantly thinks about her. He really wants to find her and as long as she's just out of reach he keeps longing for her... but as soon as they meet properly he starts slowly remembering why their marriage didn't work.

It's terrible that she only gets the feeling to be loved if she is missing and he's haunted by guilt. The marriage really must have been on a very low point as she left him.

In my mind it was close to breaking point, I think if she hadn't disappeared they would have been divorced in a matter of months. I think the whole Stephen affair was really the last drop.
