Primeval Advent Calendar: December 7

It’s Stephen who volunteers to drive Valerie to the hospital and everybody agrees that’s bloody typical and no eyebrows are raised. The silent remark that Valerie is good with animals comes from Abby, accompanied by eager nodding from Connor. And when Cutter agrees too Jenny curses her luck once again for throwing her in the clutches of bloody scientists who apparently seem to be blind to the fact that the woman simply buried her boyfriend after her little pet killed him. But it’s only when Lester shrugs and says that insuring Valerie’s silence is top priority that Jenny considers finding the closest wall and hit her head against it a few times.

“You don’t like me,” Valerie says three weeks, a Triceratops and a signed Official Secrets Act later. Jenny forces her most winning PR smile on her face and assures Valerie that there are no hard feelings on her part. Valerie is not impressed.

“Isn’t he just the sweetest?” Valerie’s eyes shine with excitement but Jenny just raises her eyebrows slowly.

“It’s a mammoth.”

A long trunk sniffs at her shoes but quickly pulls away indignantly.

“I don’t think he likes your fashion sense.”

“Well I don’t like his haircut, so we’re even,” Jenny says but takes a slice of apple from the bucket and offers it to the mammoth.

It’s Stephen who notices first, as was expected; Jenny would swear by her best pair of shoes that the man can smell sex from a hundred miles. Abby just smiles as if she had expected it all along, Connor and Cutter don’t notice at all, and Lester pretends to be annoyed by the lax morals at the ARC - though Valerie claims that she has seen Lyle’s decidedly smug look after a visit to Lester’s office, which Jenny doesn’t fail to point out the next time she becomes victim of Lester’s snarky comments. And when they are voted the most fucked up couple at the ARC Valerie keeps muttering about “bloody gay brotherhood or what?” and Jenny demands a repeat vote.
