A dollhouse it was, James decided. One oversized doll whose eyes the child already stabbed out and had replaced with pitch, was walking in front of him, leading the way. James felt too tall, too insignificant walking through the halls. Everything seemed out of proportion and too neat, too thought through for his taste. James had to duck his head when he walked through the door. Brushing invisible spider webs from his arms as the Lord caught his eye, James straightened again.
“You called for me, Lord Beckett” James said in the well-studied monotone, low voice.
“Indeed. Indeed I did.”
