It’s a half-official hospital rule at Princeton: they all want him. The floppy hair, the never-quite-sincere smile, the fake sad stories hiding a fucked childhood House never fails to hint at. No one particularly likes him, really, but they all want him. It’s all written in House’s blunt remarks, Cameron’s longing glances, Wilson’s too obvious distance, the nurses’ coy smiles, the doctors’ vaguely professional Hello’s in the elevator. It takes Foreman two days to figure it all out, three to realize he isn’t made of stone, five to crush it forever, and two months to redefine the meaning of forever.
