I don't think they're turning Tyrion into a saint? In the books he's very likeable most of the time too, that's why the end of SoS works so well. No, I think they're trying to make Shae more of a character so that when she betrays Tyrion we get why she does it, and also so we feel it more when she dies.
I'm not sure what they're doing with the Dontos storyline either, but I think they maybe want to make it not last as long. Because it'll just be episodes and episodes of them meeting and talking and nothing happening, which could get annoying. They did show him in ep 1 so I think they'll stick with it. I'm a bit upset that Sansa gets so little screentime, but I do like the scenes we've gotten so far, and I actually LOVE her scenes with Shae. She deserves someone who's nice to her.
Oh... Wow. I hadn't even thought about that, but I bet you're right. Damn, I was really looking forward to Dontos (but I really like Shae as Sansa's friend).
So no note under the pillow? Shae just whispers it to Sansa?
I already feel very emotionally invested in Shae after the last two episodes, whereas I doubt I'd get attached to Dontos. So if Shae really does get Sansa out of King's Landing and Petyr's people kill her, I'm going to be pretty torn up about it.
I don't think that Dontos has been forgotten. They took the trouble to introduce him in the first episode of the season, but I think they are holding off on the whole "Dontos helping Sansa escape" plot until next season since there isn't really any payoff on that plot until much later.
I think Shae is becoming Sansa's confidant for a couple of reasons. The first one is that Sansa needs someone she can express herself to because in the books we're inside her mind and we know what she's thinking, but that doesn't translate to TV very well. The second reason is that Shae is a slightly different character. In the books Shae is 16 years old and somewhat silly and vain. But in the show, she's been aged up which changes her a lot, I think. So now she's a woman who has seen a lot of the world and whose body has been bought and sold many times and who has probably had to deal with abusive male clients which probably makes her better able to understand Sansa and sympathize in her situation. Shae knows what it is to lie to men to please them.
Yeah, I agree with fauxkaren - I think Dontos will be next season. Also, apparently Dontos was in the throne room scene as a fool (I didn't notice it, but others have mentioned it) and it looked like the scene was cut down a bit.
I'm not really sure if they will have Tyrion kill Shae as in the books. Honestly, I'm wondering if Arya will have Jaqen knock off Tywin for her 3rd name. But maybe it will be Polliver and she'll get Needle back.
