Finally got the quotes and miscellaneous thoughts somewhat organized, so here it is! Intriguing connections, speculations, and no firm conclusions.

Yes, 'Captains' is supposed to be plural. )

dumbledore, treasure island, harry potter, voldemort

Interesting parallels. I'm actually not surprised that they exist (although I wouldn't have thought to look for them). The next book is, essentially, a treasure hunt, so it makes sense.

I'm kind of interested in what happened to these six men... Anymore thoughts on that? I haven't read Treasure Island.

I'd guess Flint managed to separate them and ambush them one or two at a time, but it's just a guess. Maybe something like, "Okay, you stand and watch here here, you there, and you there... I'll be right back!" Or maybe he was just really, really fast at shooting and stabbing. You should read it - it's a great book. Short, but lots in it.

I am definitely going to be keeping an eye out for more parallels in Book 7. Because you're right that it is the treasure hunt book.

I'll try and fit it in soon (maybe during my next break? I don't know. It's approaching, slowly, ever so slowly...)

They're fun books. I remember reading TI when I was 8 or so, but I forgot how much I loved it until I re-read it for this class. It's awesome. It even has a great moment where I think RLS is making a meta comment on the "hero" role when he has the captain say, "You're a good boy in your line, Jim, but I don't think you and me'll go to sea again. You're too much of the born favourite for me." Because Jim keeps doing impulsive, stupid things which imperil everyone else but then just happen to work out well without telling anyone what he's going to do first, and he rarely gets in real trouble for it ( ... )
