So one of my local-ish radio stations is giving away tickets to the Olympics. That's nice.
But why do they refer to the Olympics as "the real Hunger Games"? Are they going to execute any athlete who doesn't win a gold medal this year? 0_o

They've also got a weird ad running which is bizarrely honest. With very little exaggeration, it goes, "You might have heard the weather near Resort X didn't come through this year, so we have a ton of empty rooms because no one wants to come. So we're offering people in your area free rooms, because we're sure once you get here you'll spend a ton of money on food and gambling even though the scenery isn't up to its usual standards." Um... fun?

"...But in a tale more fitting for the Olympic TV satire Twenty Twelve, the plan has been scuppered because organisers were worried the spectacle of Olympias along the Thames would prove too popular, causing a security risk that might even see people throw themselves off bridges..."
Funny, I don't remember a problem with people throwing themselves into the Hudson and/or East Rivers in NYC for the Parade of Ships for the 1976 Bicentennial or 1986's Statue of Liberty centennial...
