There's something familiar about this plot

Heh, the reasons Star Wars sequels would be worse than the prequels is excellent. Now, #5 I can quibble with. Needing to finish cleaning up after the Emperor died makes sense, as the article admits, and that might take a few years. As long as it eventually works and we actually get that galactic peace we were promised, it's all good. But the other ( Read more... )

You know what the real problem with bringing back the Empire all the time was? "Heir to the Empire" avoided the problem of making RotJ irrelevant by making it clear that Thrawn was the Empire's last chance to take back the galaxy... and so then in books set afterward, we got stories like "The Crystal Star" or "Darksaber" where the Empire *wasn't* a threat any more, but still somehow ended up being the focus.

(And then, when the EU finally realised the Empire was played out,we get the Yuzhan Vong... be careful what you wish for, I guess...)

What a peculiar article. "Look at this guy, he had to build things to save his village and get fresh water - I wish more kids were like him, and built model cars!" Sure, and kids should look to the example of displaced people in refugee camps... and go camping more often!

Very true. The last gamble of a dying empire is interesting and doesn't negate the neat victory celebration, but after a certain point, you just have to let it go!

It was such a weird article. I had to read it a few times just to be sure I wasn't missing several paragraphs.
