Who: Ambria and Martin (with appearances by Trey and a sorority vampire)
Where: UCSD campus / OSI house
When: Thursday night
Ambria walked across campus, heading back for the OSI house after work. It seemed like a quiet night- almost too quiet, as they hadn't bagged a single hostile. The team members who lived off campus had already gone their separate ways, and some of those who lived in the 'frat house' had stopped for a drink. Suited her just fine, she'd rather be alone enjoying the night air.
Martin was walking past at that moment, chatting with another female student as they walked. The student was smiling and listening as he talked about features of architecture in the campus's design.
Ambria made little note of the pair until she passed them. Maybe it was because tonight had been quiet- but something struck her as odd about the fellow. Longish out-of-style hair and a somewhat eclectic taste in clothing - and speaking intellegently about design? Those were warning signs that he could be a vampire or demon looking for a bit of fast food.College was a popular hunting ground for the vampire set. She casually changed course to follow.
"And I really like what they've done with the new fraternity buildings," Martin continued, as they walked.
"Oh, are you a member?" the girl asked.
"No, no... I try to avoid any institution where abuse is part of the charter. Thus far, it's kept me out of fraternities and South America."
Ambria made another mental note. 'Thusfar' - did anyone really still say that? This guy had to be fangy. She closed the distance somewhat.
"I see," the girl said, smiling brightly. "Thank you for walking me back to my dorm... it's dangerous out here
at night sometimes."
"You wouldn't think this place would have gang troubles... I haven't seen any graffiti," Martin commented.
Ambria rolled her eyes. Of course there wasn't graffiti- vampires ate wouldbe graffitiers. Maybe this vampire wasn't going to make his move after all - he could be just hanging out. It happened sometimes.
"Well, I feel safer when I'm with you," the girl promised, and leaned in to hug him for a moment.
Ambria got out the taser. This was certainly where he'd go in for the bite.
Martin hugged, smiling.
The girl nestled in close and leaned in to kiss his neck. "Mmmmm..."
Martin's smile turned to a look of surprise. "..."
Ambria moved in, taser at the ready."Alright, drop the victim, fangy..."
The girl looked up with a fangy smile. "Oh, don't worry, he's fine..."
Ambria was surprised to see she'd got the situation wrong, but didn't think twice about it as she shot the taser at the girl."I said drop it."
The girl promptly shielded herself with Martin, who screamed bloody murder and passed out. Owie.
Vamp girl took off running, not particularly interested in being cooked and dusted. The sorority was gonna be pissed, but what can you do?
Ambria winced. She wanted to take off after the vampire, but she didn't want to leave the unconscious guy there just in case there were more. "Oh what a night," she said, and knelt down to check the unconscious guy while fishing out her phone to call in the vampire problem.
Martin was shocked as hell, and pretty likely to stay down. Perhaps unfortunately, he wasn't a vampire.
"Argh," Ambria said, and after calling the vampire in checked to see how heavy this guy was. She was a muscular girl, but hauling unconscious guys wasn't usually in her reportior. Still, she couldn't just leave him there - and she had (however accidentally) tasered him so she felt obligated.
Martin was not particularly bulky or heavy; he was pretty much just completely unhelpful in his own carrying.
"Don't you die or anything," Ambria said as she hauled him. "I am not filling out the paperwork on that. You should have ducked." She carried him back to the OSI house, and gave a knock since she couldn't exactly dig her keys out without a lot of maneuvering.
A scrawny fellow answered the door. "Yo? Oh... who's the stiff?"
"I accidentally tasered him- do not laugh. Vampire chick looking like some blonde sorority ditz tried to eat him," Ambria said. "Help me haul him up to my room."
The scrawny guy snickered. "You tagged him, you bagged him, and now you're bringing him home? Sexy sexy."
"Trey, I've already tasered one man tonight- don't make it two," Ambria cautioned.
"Yeah, yeah," Trey said, chuckling, and started to help haul. "But if you shocked me, you wouldn't be able to claim it was an accident."
Ambria groaned. These support guys killed her sometimes. "This is so not funny. I feel guilty here. Poor guy got bit - then tasered. There's no sexing involved. He has funny hair anyhow." As if she was one to talk with the whole pink hair thing.
"You look like you're trying out for starring role in an anime," Trey commented. "Maybe he should dye his hair blue to match?"
"Have you had any chinese food today? Because I have a feeling your fortune is 'many beatings will come you way'," Ambria snapped, fiddling with the door.
"Hey, I'm not into that sort of thing -- I prefer American animation," Trey said.
"Rrrh," Ambria said. She settled the unconscious boy in her bed and started digging in his pockets for a wallet.
Martin did indeed have a wallet, with a driver's license (listing him as Martin Grayson), and about sixty bucks.
"Well, hello Martin... sorry about that taser," Ambria said. She checked his age, then handed it over to Trey. "Run this, will you?"
Trey nodded, and took it off to check things out.
Ambria took off Martin's shoes and jacket, and made him comfortable on the bed. She checked his pulse to make sure that he wasn't going to need medical.
Martin wasn't about to die, fortunately -- though getting blasted with industrial-strength demon-stunning power was probably bad for his health, his heart hadn't stopped or anything.
Ambria also checked his neck wound to see how bad the vampire bit him before the taser 'scared her off'.
He hadn't been bitten up too badly, fortunately for him.
Ambria put a couple of Scooby Doo bandaids over his bite in an X shape, then took off her shoes.
Martin remained blissfully unconscious through it all.
Trey returned with the ID card. "College student, sophomore, majoring in architecture, 3.6 average, stays at Edding Hall in room 312. Doesn't own a car, but has a valid driver's license for California, including a motorcycle license."
Ambria settled on to the other side of the bed, and smoothed his hair back. "Well, hm.. your hair's not that bad, just a little in your face. And you are kind of handsome- I can see why that girl wanted to eat you..." She looked up when Trey came in, hoping he didn't just hear that. "Ah, that would explain the architecture- smart guy."
"Anything else you want to know," Trey inquired, "or are you too busy kissing him?"
"I was not kissing him," Ambria said, glaring. "I was just making him comfortable.I already called in the vampire - but if that hasn't gone out over the wire yet I can give you a description of that to see if she's been causing any more trouble."
"Marc probably has the report on that - I think HQ is still checking on whether she's got priors or not," Trey said.
"Okay thanks," Ambria said. "I guess that's about all we can do until he wakes up."
"Yup. Want me to get the ammonia?" Trey asked.
"Do you think we should? I don't know whether it's better to leave him rest until he feels like waking up, or to wake him up and make sure he's not in shock or anything," Ambria said. Medical wasn't her field of expertise.
"Well, it'd wake him up," Trey promised. "I don't think a little electrocution is gonna kill him."
"Alright, let's give it a go," Ambria said.
Trey headed off, and returned shortly after with an ammonia capsule. "Just snap it under his nose, he should wake up."
"Thanks," Ambria said. She closed the door - both so Trey didn't make any more cracks about her making out with the guy, and in case he freaked out when she woke him up and he tried to bolt. Once that was done, she settled on the bed to crack the capsule and wave it under his nose. "Hey, Martin... wakeup..."
Martin groaned and jolted away from the smell. "Rrgh..."
"Hey... sorry about that," Ambria said. "But I want to make sure you're okay."
"... who the heck are you?" Martin groaned.
"My name's Ambria," she said. "You're in my dorm room. That girl you were walking back to her place - she bit you, do you remember?" She hoped he'd remember that and not the taser. Oh please, whatever powers that be- don't let him remember the taser, Ambria prayed.
"Last thing I remember was hugging this girl I was walking back to her dorm... my back is killing me. What happened?" Martin asked.
"Well... after she hugged you, she bit you," Ambria said. "Then while I was aiming the vamptase at her, she kinda threw you in the way of it and you went down. Hard. So I brought you back here to my dorm. Sorry."
"The wha?" Martin's brain was barely parsing English, and 'Vamptaze' didn't sound like an actual word to him. Then again, most of what she'd said didn't parse.
Oh great- he was also one of those clueless supernatural newbs. This day just kept getting better. "A vampire," Ambria said, slowly. "You know.. grr,arrgh.. bite bite. With the fangs. Check your neck," she advised. "And the vamptase - a taser set at a strong setting for vampires. Which, oops. Hey, at least it wasn't set to demon, in which case you might be kinda hospitalized or dead right now- so look on the bright side."
"..." Martin took a moment to process that. "And that would explain why I am in catastrophic pain right now?"
Ambria winced. "Yeah, that would explain it. I'm really, really sorry about that. I was aiming for the vampire."
"Mmmgh." Martin didn't look thrilled.
"Well, it was better than getting eaten. You're still alive," Ambria said. "And you wouldn't have been had I not followed you."
"Well, thanks...I guess," Martin said.
"Yeah... I mean, I didn't mean to save you from death only to tase you a moment later," Ambria said, still feeling guilty. "But hey, I'll look after you while you're recovering from it."
"So... vampire," Martin said.
"Yes, she was a vampire," Ambria said. She gently reached out to touch his neck where the bite was. "Do you remember her biting you?"
Martin pondered, wincing a bit at the poke. "I remember feeling one hell of a sexual rush -- is THAT what that was?"
Ambria nodded. "Yeah, it's all sexy time until the blood loss kills you."
"Yay." Martin looked unhappy.
"Can you tell me a bit about the girl?" Ambria said. "So we can try to find her before she eats another unsuspecting student."
"Her name was Katherine, and she was at the Espresso Pump and wanted someone to walk her back to her dorm," Martin remembered.
"You walked her back from the Pump to where she tried to bite you?" Ambria asked. "What did you talk about?"
"We just chatted about things -- she's studying literature, and I'm studying architecture," Martin said.
"Did she say anything about what classes she's in?" Ambria asked. "Anything about how long she's been a student here?"
"Not really," Martin answered.
"Can you describe her? I saw her briefly, but you had a better look at her..." Ambria said.
"About five and a half feet tall, black hair, pretty brown eyes, sort of petite, wearing a college sweater..." Martin said.
"Did she approach you at the Espresso Pump, or did you approach her first?" Ambria asked.
"Well, I was getting ready to leave, and she approached me," Martin answered.
"How are you feeling? You want some water?" Ambria asked. "Or a blanket?"
"No... I want to stop feeling like crap all over," Martin said.
"I'm sorry," Ambria said again. "It'll be a while on that one." She pulled the blanket up around him anyhow. "Just try to get some rest - I'll have them call you out of your classes on medical leave. Someone'll collect your work. It'll all be taken care of."
"Mmgh." Martin grumbled, and tried to move, then regretted it. "Agh, goddamnit."
"I told you, it'll all be taken care of. Just rest." Ambria smoothed back the hair from his forehead. "You're safe here."
"Mm. Don't have much choice," Martin observed.
"True," Ambria said. "And hey, I might not be a chesty little sorority girl- but I'm not going to bite you either." She settled on the side of the bed he wasn't occupying. "So we can get acquainted."
"Where am I, anyhow?" Martin asked.
"You're in OSI house," Ambria said. "I live here."
"Uh... fraternity or sorority?" Martin inquired.
"We're co-ed," Ambria assured him. "Don't worry, you're welcome here."
"Heh.. that's a relief, I guess," Martin said.
"Safest place on campus," Ambria assured him. "You shouldn't walk around at night- especially alone."
"Heh... I guess not. You could get tazered," Martin agreed.
Ambria sighed. "I said I was sorry. And the biting was the bigger problem."
"The biting didn't hurt nearly as much," Martin commented.
"Well, the taser didn't kill you- the bite would have if she kept on sucking. You're lucky I was there - well, other than the whole zappy thing," Ambria said. "I understand why you're a bit cranky here - but c'mon, forgive me."
"Yeah, yeah..." Martin said, wincing.
"I promise - couple of days, a week at the most- you'll be feeling good again," Ambria said.
