Satsu had never celebrated Thanksgiving before, but she'd learned enough about American customs to know it's purpose and it's customs, if not why the annihilation of a race of people was cause for celebration. And hey. Free turkey? Always good.
The exchange student sat down at the table and grinned at Rachel.
"Thanks again for allowing me to participate in your family's holiday, ma'am."
"Thanks a lot for letting me come over, too, ma'am." Andrew himself was very grateful that he didn't have to spend Thanksgiving at home. His parents hadn't even said anything about doing a dinner this year, so he probably would have been alone otherwise.
Cassie squeezed Andrew's hand lovingly, and looked around the table at the motley crew Rachel had managed to assemble. All different, but all connected by mutual love and respect.
"Not to be a broken record, but yeah... thanks, Mom. You have NO idea how much this means to me to have Andrew here with us."
As everyone began to dig into the food, Satsu merely sat back for a moment, a deep, satisfied grin sliding across her lips as she just took in how happy everyone looked. While it didn't take a brain surgeon to realize Rachel wasn't the happiest camper in town, she still looked somewhat content just to be with family. Cassie and Andrew looked simply in heaven just to be together, and the potential slayer couldn't help but be a little envious, in a good way.
Hearing Rachel refer to her as family, almost like a second mother, made Satsu feel almost bad that she had told one of the kids at school that she was living with "a total babe".
"I, um... I don't know if you guys even do this, but I heard this was tradition. I just wanna say before I start eating that I'm thankful to be here in this country, and I'm thankful to have made such wonderful friends."
