Gil stood on the front porch of Mr. Welch's house and knocked on the front door. He'd already been over by Kayla's, so they'd done a lot of packing of the essentials there. All he had with him was his bag of books and notes and maps. He'd swiped an old gardening hat from his mom and dug up an old pair of sunglasses.
He figured he was just about as ready as it was possible to be. He'd spent a lot of time paring down his list of books -- a lot of them were just too heavy to be lugging through the desert. He knocked again, just in case.
"Yo, Emil. Uh, Mr. Gregory, sir." Gil made his way inside and set his bag down with a thump. "Kayla and Chris will be here in a bit -- they're getting all the other stuff together. Are we ready to go?"
Gil had been about to answer when there was a knock at the door. Since he was closest, he opened it and peered out. "Oh! Speak of the country ninja!" Turning back into the house he said, "They're here!" He opened the door to let them in.
Clive pulled up outside Xavier's house, noting with relief that there still seemed to be people there. He vaguely recognized the kid standing near the truck, at least. As he climbed out of the car, he waved. "Hey! Aren't you the guy from the last time we were all here?"
Gil jumped, startled. "What? Oh, yeah. That's me. I remember you too. You've gotta be Clive. I'm Gil." He stuck out his hand. "Everybody else is still inside, but I think they're coming out any second." He turned to look and see if anyone was making their way out yet. "Want me to go get somebody else?"

He cautiously opened the door and peered out to see who was there. "Oh.. hello Gil, come on in."
He called back to Xavier. "It's Gil."

He still wasn't entirely sure he trusted this guy hanging around his sister - he looked vaguely sleazy at times.
