In woofiegrrl's Quicklinks for 2006-02-22 there is a link to nothandicapped.com. Meredith added the comment, "I actually really disagree with this. It's good that they're not permanent stickers, but it's inappropriate for people to presume the person using the car is able-bodied."

If the car has a plate/placard, I will normally assume that it's there for a reason, whether or not the reason is immediately evident.

However, I remember with great pleasure one particular evening when I saw someone park in the handicapped space at a grocery store -- no placard in evidence -- and sprint thru the rain to get to the entrance. I was leaving, and a Metro cop car was coming into the parking lot; I flagged him down and pointed him at the car in question. I am absolute death on people who park in handicapped spaces without a plate or placard.

I've forgotten to hang my placard a couple of times. :/

I got plates for my car, so now I only have to carry or think about the placard when in someone else's car, when grabbing it and making sure I have it with me is more deliberate.

Of course, this wouldn't be as much of a problem if police departments/hired security companies would actually enforce the regulations/laws in a timely manner.

(Crap. That makes me sound like a Republican, doesn't it? Maybe it's time to form a vigilante group ala The Minutemen to go around and document illegal handicap spaces "border crossings".)

That could be done, y'know. You'd need a digicam that does date/time stamping and has enough breadth of focus to get the handicapped sign and lack of placard both at once -- preferably along with the license plate, but overlapping, timestamped shots would also work.

I would offer to sell you similar stickers at cost (I have a Cafepress store too), but that turns out to be $2.49 - not much more reasonable when you want to buy several of them. If that price is okay with you, let me know and I'll put something up in my store. But making your own is probably the best way to go.
