Boo?

I feel a wee bit silly writing this, but here goes.

There are some of you that may not know I believe in ghosts. I'm not very vocal about my belief of things paranormal - I'm not ashamed of it, I'm just wary. Whenever I've mentioned me believing in ghosts to people in the past, especially people who simply don't believe any of it, I often get told ( Read more... )

I beleave in just about everything.

Ghosts. Alien Abduction. Demonic Possession.

I am slightly less open minded about cryptozooology.

And I think some of the more famous TV Mediums are makeing it up at least some of the time.

I read the fortean times on an irratic basis.

It probably stands to reason that the more a medium is publicly recognisable, or even frequenting/hosting supernatural shows, the less real it all is. I imagine TV Execs don't take "there aren't any ghosts around here" as an excuse.

I can also see your reasoning re cryptozoology - there's far more proof towards the existence of ghosts, demons etc than for Nessie or a Yeti.

I tend to say that I am simultaniously sceptical of everything and open to everything; that's how I was raised. I suppose it's an odd combination; we'll laugh at so-called 'psychics' being debunked on TV, and scoff at New Age ideas, while at the same time discuss people's star signs and tell people's fortune in cards. (Which I will happily do, btw, if asked! :))

I do tend to distrust an idea that presents me with an existing packaged solution; for example, if someone told me "ghosts exists, and they are the souls of dead people thrown out of heaven by a giant lizard" or something equally detailed, I'd be likely to dismiss that as rubbish. However, the idea "there is something going on that science cannot explain in this house or that field, and we call that phenomenon 'ghosts'" - well, how could anyone dismiss that?
