It was actually going to be one of his Army medals, like whatever the Brit equivalent of a Purple Heart is, but then I changed it because I had the image in my head of Sherlock squatting against a wall in beat-up clothes, all scraggly and destitute looking, chewing on the silencers while he had the weight of the world on his shoulders.
