So. You may or may not know I also DESPISE public speaking. DESPISE IT SO FUCKING MUCH. Yep. I have video of nearly every time I spoke at B3, and I have never watched a single one because I know I will want to kill myself afterward. But I will tell you one thing - the more you do it, the less you throw up beforehand. Seriously. Take a speech class or something if you really want to be able to speak in front of people. Do what it takes. And don't be afraid, because you know what I found out? Since the vast majority of people hate speaking in front of a crowd, the crowd can be very forgiving, especially if you just start your speech by saying up front how you think you're pretty bad at speaking to crowds. :) I know not everyone is as forgiving as steampunks, but people can be quite forgiving in this area. And lastly? Going by my own experience, if people can be trusted - I didn't suck quite as much as I perceive I did. :)
Hey, I'm sorry you felt so much anxiety about the podcast. I hope you can work this out for yourself....stuff happens, try not to beat yourself up too much afterwards, that doesn't help.
What I have found does help....just doing it. A little thing, and then let that build up to bigger things.
I don't get sick but I do shake when I have to get up in front of people. It may not be obvious but I don't like it either. Though, I found myself less nervous once I started carrying a camera around. Can't always bring it up but it does act as a security blanket. Don't suppose there is something that could act as a security blanket for you? I know you will be doing some stuff at the con. Could you wear a mask for it? Would that help? I know you can't do it at meetings but it might be a start.
Along that note, I loathed presentations in school. I'd volunteer to go first just to get it over with (especially if the teacher offered extra credit). I don't know why they make all the students give them. Not everyone is comfortable in front of people and it causes anxiety and stress for those that don't like it.
