This is a fascinating, thoughtful read!

I think Buffy's attraction to Faith is also about the Slayery connection, and even moreso the sense that Faith shares and won't judge the darker parts of being the Slayer. The minty-fresh aroma speaks to the lack of devil-may-care cool, for sure, but also Willow's... hmm, lack of tainted-ness? At least in Buffy's eyes. I suspect she doesn't want Willow to be around for the discussion of enjoying Slaying and any possible tingly feelings engendered by the fighting and killing.

Love your point about Xander's high-level performance and inability to get a rep to stick. Never occurred to me before :)
