Classic Gothic Horror

As of this afternoon I have read all of: Frankenstein, Dracula, and Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde.

I found the ending of Dracula to be incredibly anti-climatic.

I read Frankenstein a LONG time ago and wasn't overly impressed. Started Dracula but never finished, and I've never really liked Robert Louis Stevenson (though, admittedly, Jekyll and Hyde is uncommon considering the rest of his oeuvre, so I might give it a shot). Sadly enough, I find that the more contemporary spawn of the original Gothic horror canon are much more to my taste.

Out of curiosity (and certainly not out of any love for them, I might add) I can't help but wonder if you've read any of those godawful Twilight books that are oh-so-popular with the young girls nowadays.

No. I was kind of interested considering how much press it was getting... then I heard the vampires were sparkley. Honestly, I have to draw the line somewhere.

Yeah... by all accounts, they aren't harmed by sunlight, because it just makes them "sparkly", and the main guy is abusive and creepy and the main girl exists solely as a blank slate for the reader to project herself onto, and she ends up having his vampire doombaby that SNAPS HER SPINE when she gives birth to it, only to have it imprint onto a teenage werewolf who intends to "hold off on their relationship" until the baby "comes of age" (read: until she's about six years old).

Creepy shit, man. I haven't read them, this is all from hearsay, but the hearsay is so monumentally bad that I'm not even remotely curious.

Agreed. Wonderful story that was told in a nice, concise manner.

Frankenstein is the greatest book I've ever read, a close second being The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.
