Having looked online, very quickly, for apartments, I've just found a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, for 575 a month... IN SAN FRANCISCO. With a pool and tennis court, and in a nice enough neighborhood. My dad said it's a bit south of the city and not much happening, but still, you can take a bus or something ( Read more... )

That's a steal for San Francisco. You wouldn't want to live in the Freshman dorms, trust me. Even though there is that Freshman experience, with those amenities and at that price, it's so worth it.

Mind you, of course this apartment won't be around in 6 months when I need to go looking again, but hopefully something else good will be?

I had someone who graduate from San Fran State, though, tell me that OMG YOU NEED TO GO IN THE DORMS ITS SO CHEAP RELATIVELY BECAUSE YOU GET ALL YOUR FOOD COVERED AND DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT COOKING AND YOU CAN MEET PEOPLE THAT WAY AND ITS THE RIGHT EXPERIENCE AND YOU HAVE TO GO.

So I'm kinda like o________0?

I lived in the dorms 3 years of the 4 I went to college. It's not for every body. But, that said, I do recommend the dorms for the first year. Meeting people, having food paid for, having someone else clean the bathrooms!, is all so worth it. Also there is a convenience of being on campus all the time (dorms are usually on or near campus).

Meeting people means you can find an apartment with people to share the next year. Even if it's one to a room, this is so much cheaper than one person in an apartment. The experience of the dorms is something you'll never ever have a chance for again.

Also, I made a friend from Germany my last year in the dorms. She was an exchange student. We are still friends. We write, email. We meet when we are in the other's country. This was over 20 years ago!

So this is just my 2 cents worth on the dorm living question.
