Facebook Has Pissed Me Off

And mind you, I can't exactly walk away from it, because unfortunately it's how I remain connected to a rather large number of people AND organizations that are important to me. But I'm going to scale back my activity over there for right now and maybe hang out over here for a bit.

Seconding the "Welcome back!" sentiment.

As to Facebook, it is indeed a Mixed Blessing for reasons we're both well aware of. Not sure that I dare scale back at this point, but we'll see if there's a Rubicon for me to cross.

Thirding the "Welcome Back!" sentiment.

FWIW, my Facebook experience improved markedly after:
- I did a pruning of my friendslist & also made the decision to Unfollow a few people (i.e. stayed friends but stopped seeing their updates)

- I refrained from using "like" after reading these two articles:

I Quit Liking Things On Facebook for Two Weeks. Here’s How It Changed My View of Humanity.

I liked everything I saw on Facebook for two days here's what it did to me.

Oh, I've done both the pruning and the unfollowing all along. What's pissing me off currently is that Facebook has algorithms in place that allow for your ability to post, share and link items to be curtailed if someone has complained about you. No human is even involved with reviewing the complaint, usually, and people will complain over the dumbest things. This happened to me recently -- near as I can figure, I made a comment in a political discussion thread and someone decided they didn't like my perspective, so they complained. (I have some suspicions as to who it was - possibly a friend of a friend - but I can't prove it) and I soon found that Facebook was randomly blocking my ability to post or share anything containing a link (including to this blog). Yet it was mostly random. I couldn't share most political things or link to much of anything, even if it wasn't political. I also couldn't share or link to items from our local newspaper, not even if it was something innocuous like a weather forecast for the weekend or a photo of ( ... )
