Hey, I really like this! The requested song really compliments the story. I think I'm going to try to believe that this is what happens after X3. I particularly like the subtlety with which you handled Logan, and the thoughtful bit about Toad at the end.

One thing though:

He tried to feel for his lasses

Unless you're channeling Moira, I think you mean "glasses."

Thank you! I was really worried about how to write Logan. I was worried the bit about Toad and useful mutations didn't fit or anything. Yeesh, I can't remember anything I was confident about. 0.0

Aaah typos how unfortunate. I proofread, honestly! Thanks for the heads up.

People like Toad are what make the X-Men fandom hard for me, in movieverse and comicverse. I want to believe that Xavier was a good person who really could have made better choices. I want to believe that the cure is a different decision for different mutants. (The cure wouldn't even make sense if all mutations were like Warren's.) Sometimes canon looks at these things and somethines it takes them to one extreme or another. It's all very confusing.

Anyway, I salute you for taking it on.

Do you read any Toad fic? One day I was going along in X-Men fandom as an idealistic kid thinking Xavier was a saint and la-de-da, then I read this Toad-centric movieverse fic that changed my mind. It was Kissable Fanatic, Unhinged Minimal Artist by basingstoke and in the commentary s/he said "...there really *is* a difference between mutants who can hide and mutants who can't, and it's bothersome to me to see the pretty mutants on the Good Side and all the ugly mutants on the Bad Side." And then I started to think. Somewhere else I read a commentary or rant on how there's a difference between the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and the Brotherhood of Mutants, and why are all the non-passable ones on that side ( ... )

Thank you very much!

My favorite lines:

He's dead, right? At Ellis Island.”

Scott laughed, a short, mean laugh. “Who knows? Maybe one day he won't be anymore.”

How true!

It would have to be bizarre for Scott to come back after it's all over and hear what he missed. Not that I expect there ever to be an X4 to fix X3...

Thank you! I was very worried.

Well, the one truth I'm sure of in X-Menverse at large: no one is ever really dead.

I'm definitely going with this as my version of what happens after Alkali Lake (there was no body!) - I love Scott's process of healing, and the feeling that he's surrounded by people who love him.

I could only walk away satisfied from the movie when I remembered that no one's ever really dead in X-Menverse. In the '90s cartoon I think I remember his dad actually abducting him, maybe that's what happened...*koff*

Thanks, I'm glad it worked for you. :)

Mmm, I like the vagueness about what actually happened to Scott. He could've been in outer space! With the Askanis! :D I loved Xavier's Hospital For Accidents and Mishaps and the way the poor students are trying so hard for their beloved Mr. Summers.

Thanks for writing!

Thanks a lot! I really think the students would totally call it that.

I really liked the way that Scott was peripherally aware of Logan in this fic. It was interesting to see how he gradually became increasingly aware of the tension.

I loved the obvious indecision on Logan's part. It's not normal for him, but you did a great job keeping it in character. Nicely done!

Thank you very much! (Logan and Hank are the two hardest characters for me to write, so what do? Write them both, of course!) I'm really glad Logan worked for you.
