Dear Musamea,

I was possessed. The original inspiration for this was an LJ usericon series, with the Battlestar Galactica characters re-named as X-Men. And then? likeadeuce mentioned something in IM. And then I watched the BSG ep "Maelstrom." And . . . All I have to say is, if you don't like this ( Read more... )

I don't know anything about BSG, but this story was incredibly touching. An abused kid supporting herself with imaginary friends from a comic book. And the mother taking even that tiny comfort away. Very touching. And a very original idea for an X-Men story. Good job.

I am glad that, even for those who don't know BSG, that some of the themes come through. Thank you!

Wow, I am so glad that I had a part in inspiring this, because it's just stunning -- I love what you added to the fantasy sequences in the final draft (some Scot/Yanna OTP moments, *heart goes squishy*). I love the way that Socrata comes across as a complicated and conflicted character with a lot of pain of her own, too; not at all a one-dimensional person who only exists to harm her child. She seems to be proud of Kara for fighting even while Kara is making a series of irrational excuses that don't really fit together. It's so clear how she learned that behavior, and why ( ... )

Yeah, people don't hit their kids because they are monsters. They do it for all sorts of bad reasons, but if you ask them, there are reasons. The BSG show has clearly given that audience Socrata's reasoning -- she is trying to make a hero who will save Caprica.

Well. There are different ways to make heroes. Socrata has one. The X-Men always did have another.

I think Scott may have obsessed with Ripley, yeah, but, actually?

Sarah Connor. (No, I wouldn't be projecting, why do you ask?)

Thank you for the beta, and for talking about this, and I am glad you liked it. :)

Your story always seems to take on an original and refreshing view on writing your characters.
Cyclops is a role model for people to look up to for being a better and strong person, it's natural for a young, abused child like Kara to turn to him for support.
This story is perfect, thanks for writing a wonderful story for us.

Oh. When you described the story to me, I was excited.

Reading this? I'm so very glad I said go for it.

I haven't been keeping up with BSG like a good fangirl, but that's ok. Because you showed me everything I needed to know to understand Kara's background. And how Scot is her protector, even if he is only a comic book character.

*pets them both*

I'm with everyone else on the crying.

Thank you, very much, for the consultation! And, I am glad it works even for those who don't know their current BSG. :) Thank you --

Great job! Here by way of selenak.

I don't know the X-Men vey well, but you got Starbuck in one. Love how you switched her back and forth between herself and her Cyclops persona.

Thank you! I am glad that the crossover aspects worked for people on both sides of this -- the X-Men fans, and the BSG fans. :)
