Title: A Remedy for Summertime
Rating: G
Fandom: Sailor Moon (let's call it mangaverse, I guess)
Words: 510
Summary: In which Zoisite's logic is questionable, but no one really cares.
Notes: First of all, I'm sorry this is late. My parents felt that I had "more important priorities" than getting on the computer to post this, so I had to wait until they went to bed. >.<
Second thing is that this is an old fandom for me. It's been a good three years since I so much as read a fic, so please forgive any small mistakes-- I think I've managed to avoid any huge ones.

There was an ice sculpture. There was always an ice sculpture. Zoisite stared longingly at the life-size frozen swans and tugged at the collar of his stifling uniform. This was the moon. It wasn't supposed to be hot. And yet, somehow, Queen Selenity's summer affairs always seemed to take place in blistering heat.

Next to Zoisite, Kunzite looked like a statue of ice and iron, his clothes perfectly straight and his hair somehow not plastered to his face. Jadeite and Nephrite, however, looked just as hot as Zoisite, for which the latter was profoundly grateful. It wouldn't do to be the only hot, rumpled guardian standing about at such a formal event.

Zoisite rolled his eyes as Jadeite and Nephrite eyed the senshi surrounding Princess Selenity on the other side of the lawn. Really, he felt, it was rather questionable behavior for them to eye their supposed compatriots in such a manner. But just at the moment it was far too hot to pass judgement on his fellow generals, no matter how much wit he could display in the process.

Then he heard Jadeite remark wistfully, "Look at the girls, out here working in those glorified bathing suits. I bet they aren't about to pass out from heatstroke."

Zoisite perked up, and his eyes took on a manic gleam. "Come with me, and follow my lead," he hissed at Nephrite.

"Why me?" Nephrite growled back.

Zoisite kept his face calm as he responded, "Because if I go myself they'll think I'm planning something. If I take Kunzite, they'll assume we're sneaking off to have sex. And if I take Jadeite, he'll piss them off and they won't help us."

Either Zoisite's arguments were indisputable or the heat was making Nephrite too tired to argue further, but the other general shrugged and followed Zoisite across the lawn to the where the senshi had congregated in a giggling, chattering knot.

"Ami," Zoisite said softly, drawing aside the girl he thought would be the easiest to convince, "Something's come up. We have to leave for a few minutes; could you keep an eye on Endymion until we're back?"

"I suppose so--" she began, and Zoisite cut her off with a kiss to her hand. "You don't know how much this means to us," he said, with his sweetest smile, and then he hurried back across the grass, Nephrite in tow, to where Kunzite and Jadeite waited for them. "Let's go," he muttered, as soon as the others were in earshot.

The shitennou moved off in something very near parade formation, with Zoisite at the head, until they reached the private water garden.

"Now may I ask what we're doing?" Nephrite inquired crossly.

Jadeite grinned. "I think I know."

"We're going to be in so much trouble," Kunzite sighed.

"No, we're not," Zoisite assured him. "Everyone's at the party, and if they aren't, they shouldn't be here. So there's no one who could rat us out without admitting that they were where they shouldn't have been. And now, my friends--we're going swimming. After all-- who will defend Endymion if we're all dead from heat?"
