I questioned “She died about three-four years ago. Supposedly quite a powerful person. She couldn't live with his father, so I've heard." He purses his lips.

"Yes. She was Cu's mother. She guided me over the hill to the cave, then back to the road when I lost Cu's headlights."

The alignment of the journal entries with real life seems unbelievable to me.

The Spanish "No, no hay problema. Voy a enseñar sin libros, sin escuela, sin materiales, y sin sueldo. No, no hay ningún problema." was a puzzle. I see later where you explain...

Pronoun reference: As Despina and Mick return to her hovel, she thinks, as long as he doesn't have to dirty his hands, then chides herself for being waspish when he is helping her.

Impossible action as first written: Mickey examines her arm (firelight gone, car headlights not yet on... What's it here for, anyway?)

I'm working on trying to strengthen the magic realism... I'm still not quite sure how to best do it. Some people may not ever be comfortable with it. It is a strange thing, and that felt right for the strangeness I wanted to have happen. I felt it pointed up a very strong cultural difference. We're so logical, scientific, and leave little or no room for miracles, even among the faithful.

Could the loaves and fishes, happening today, be accepted by most Christians? Would we all knowingly shake our heads and say, "slight of hand" or "trick photography"?

LOL! Mick is using it as an excuse to TOUCH HER. (In real life, if the guy is too slow coming up with one, the gal will invent it for him... some of that happens, too, but Despina vehemently denies it, of course!)

Hm. Interesting things happening here. Despina certainly seems to be quite intuitive. Was she just perusing her old journal and this was the first time she'd pieced together the connection between her years-old dreams and her current reality? Her recognition of Cu was mentioned before, but not the incredibly detailed references to the cave and school. Just wondering if this is the first time she's realized or if it's just the first we're hearing about it from her.

She is just putting it together now, as she goes. It is freaking her out. Others may doubt that she's talked to Cu's mother, but she knows it happened, and did a reality check by getting Paul Peter on record as having seen the same things she did, in front of witnesses.
