The flight from LA to Sunnydale was a smooth one for Buffy at least due to the fact thatshe slept through most of it. But for Rupert and Sherlock? It was for them a flight that was filled with nothing but noise. Babies were crying, children kicking the backs of people's seats. Really it was enough for them to wish that they had taken the train or the bus.
By the time the plane had landed Giles was ready for a stiff drink. When Sherlock said: "I don't know about you you Rupert, burt I'm starving. Why don't the three of us get something to eat?"
"What do yu think Buffy?" Giles asked. The Slayer shrugged. "Sure Why not?"
"Where should we go?" Sherlock asked. Buffy grinned. "I know just the place."
Joyce Summers was loading the dishwasher when she heard a knock on the door. Quickly she closed the door of the dishwasher and went to answer the front door.
"Hello Joyce." Rupert said. "Do you mind if we come in?"
"Of course, Mr. Giles," said Joyce, stepping aside to allow Giles to enter. "Have you seen-? Buffy!" She shouted as she saw her daughter.
"Hi, Mom." Buffy said with a grin. Joyce rushed to her daughter and gave a hug so tight that it nearly took the Slayer's breath away. "Uh, mom? Needing some oxygen now."
"What? Oh! I'm sorry Buffy." Joyce said. Then she noticed a man standing beside Giles. "Who is that man, Buffy?" The slayer laughed amd Giles handled the introductions. "Joyce, this is Sherlock Holmes. He was the one who hwlped me find Buffy."
"A pleasure, Mrs. Summers." Sherlock said, taking her with light bow. Joyce blushed. "Nice to met you," she said and then remembered her manners. "Oh, I'm sorry . Are you hungry? Why don't we sit down in the dinning room and talk?"
Buffy grinned. "Sure mom."
"There isn't much in the house, right now." Joyce told them. "So I'm afraid, everyone that it's take out tonight. What will it be? Chinese or pizza?"
Giles looked at Buffy and Sherlock who nodded. "Chinese." They said. Joyce laughed. "Chinese it is, then." She went to the phone in the kitchen grabbed the menu from Lee Su's and dialed the number. She ordered enough food for six people and hung up with a smile.
"They should be here in thirty minutes," Joyce said to Buffy, who grinned. "In the meantime, why don't you tell me Mr. Giles, Mr. Holmes, just how you got my little girl home?"
Starting with Giles Joyce got the full story of how the watcher found Buffy working as a waitress in LA. Joyce shook her head in disbelief. "Buffy why didn't you go to your father when you got to LA?"
Buffy frowned. "I tried, but his secretary said that he was in Lisbon, on business she said." I bet he was, Joyce thought. She glanced at Giles who wore a similar of his own: a combination of annoyance and disgust. "So how did you get a job as a waitress?" Joyce asked.
Before Buffy could reply there was a knock on the door. "That must be the chinese," Joyce said. "I'll get it." Grabbing her wallet, she went to the door. "Buffy could you help me, please?"
"Sure, Mom." Buffy said. She took four bags, two in each hand, while Joyce paid the delivery boy and grabbed the last tow bags. When she was doe she closed the door. "Food's here!" Joyce called out. Both Rupert and Sherlock came into the living room, Giles tok the bags from Joyce, while Holmes took Buffy's bags.
"Really Giles," Buffy said with a laugh. "You two didn't have to do that. Mom and I could have managed."
"What and spoil the surprise?" Giles said as the four of them entered the dinning room. Buffy wasn't sure how Giles and Sherlock did it; after all she and Joyce was only at the door for five minutes! Somehow they managed to set the table while she and her mom dealt with the delivery boy ad the food.
"Wow." Buffy said. "This is great! How did you managed all of this? Mom and I were only out of the room for five minutes."
Giles and Sherlock smiled. "Well, you know what they say, four hands are better then two." Buffy smiled. "In this case, I guess that's true." With that she helped Giles, her mom, ad Sherlock set the food on their plates ad they all sat down to eat.
As they ate Sherlock asked Joyce a question. "Mrs. Summers did you mind if Buffy accompanies Mr. Giles and myself on a tour of Sunnydale? I wish to get a lay of the land as it were while I'm here. And I figured that Rupert and Buffy would make excellet guides. That is, if you don't object?" He added with a boyish smile.
Buffy looked at her mom, thinking that there was no way that Joyce would agree to such a thing. After all, the Slayer just got back and Buffy figured that she'd be grounded until she turned forty if not longer. But Joyce surprised not only Buffy, but Giles ad Sherlock as well, when she said: "All right, but on one condition."
"What is it?" Buffy asked. Joyce smiled. "That your first visit is Willow's. She's been worried sick ever since you left."
"Deal." Buffy agreed. However, Joyce was't done. "There's one more thing; I want Mr. Giles to drive you. No buses or taxis, at least not now. Okay?"
"Okay." Buffy and Giles agreed.
