A Doctor Who Quickie

Apr 12, 2010 21:03

I was going to put this in my Hub 4 con report, but decided it warranted a little post of its own. It's nice to know what other Doctor Who fans are thinking and feeling about Matt Smith and the new series so at the Hub Kai asked us all what we thought. He did this by getting us to cheer for David Tennant and then cheer again for Matt Smith. Guess ( Read more... )

It's nice to hear that people are behind the new Who.

I am dreading the Americanization of Torchwood. It can either suck badly or suck worse than anything that has ever sucked before.

It really was great to hear such massive support for Matt Smith. He's doing a wonderful job.

I'm really not sure about an American Torchwood. Like anything else I'll give it a chance. If it turns out to be really bad I might get a good laugh out of it, lol.

*nods* The combination of a very exciting new Doctor and a Companion who's already won my heart is a good one. Matt is unusual-looking, and very young, but an excellent, experienced actor who seems to have a handle on how to play an iconic character.

Two thumbs up!

I think the best description I've heard of Matt's appearance is "he looks like a caricature of a handsome man".

What an interesting description! He has the characteristics of a handsome man, slightly skewed. He'd never have been cast in an all-American version, but imprinted on the role immediately, partly because he's so different. Time will tell as to whether he'll be a great Doctor but it's looking positive, so far.

If you take each feature individually Matt would be atrociously good-looking: mesmeric eyes, killer cheekbones, gorgeous mouth, strong chin, L'Oreal hair. Just there's something about the way it's all put together on his head that doesn't quite fit the Golden Ratio.

I'm glad that he's getting a positive reaction from you and Suki - I tend to trust your judgement.

Hear hear!! He definitely has my vote, and Ten was ALWAYS "my doctor".

Now all I need is an Eleven icon...

I need Eleven icons too. Lots of them. By the gods of sticky toffee puddings I think I feel a crush coming on.

I've only seen the first episode so far and I'm liking what I'm seeing. I'm not going to say that Matt's replacing DT in my affections just yet because I adored Ten.

Was Hub 4 as good as you hoped? I assuaged my sadness at not being able to go with a visit to the Television and Movie Store in Norwich. Think Forbidden Planet but more bijou and with Torchwood and Dr Who stuff on sale!

I'd decided I really like him after the first ep but it was the second ep that sealed it for me. I absolutely adore him.

I like what I'm hearing! Did you get some good stuff?

Sadly I only had about ten minutes in there on the way to the coach station so didn't have much browsing time or space. I picked up some Dr Who stuff that's going to be handy for when we take the Brownies away in February - sticker packs, Tardis flannels and so on and all for less than a tenner!

I did almost walk out with Ianto but I couldn't decide which one to go for. At the moment Jack's only got The Master to keep him company.

I'm back up there mid-June so I'm hoping there's still going to be old DW stock on sale because I absolutely do need a remote control Dalek. *nods* Also, it's a good place to pick up random fandom stuff for the Midimeet raffle.

I can't believe how much I like him already.

And Amy.

I just hope the writers don't go too far down the 'universe on his shoulders' route because the first episode was such a refreshing change from all that bollocks deep and meaningful stuff.
