The New Batgirl

We're up to issue 4 now of the new Batgirl and I actually rather like it. I wasn't sure how I felt about Steph in the role as I kinda liked her as Spoiler even though she irritated the hell out of me. I love that she makes mistakes (see War Games for the biggest whoopsie of all time). She's flawed and I sort of love her for that. Not convinced ( Read more... )

No knowledge whatsoever about current comics etc; but I was curious. These scans do show some nice humor.

I like that Batgirl is an athletic build -- not the size nothing waist and huge tits. But that costume is ... oh how to articulate it. I hate the design of the black portion which basically paints a straight line to accentuate the crotch & breasts (but then that's the point judging by the villian's outfit). Then the purple part looks painted. The effect is it looks like the black over her breasts is a bib so the sides can bulge out. It's just weird & unsexy. The black should wrap around her chest, ribs & kidneys to protect them as I assume it's some sort of super flexible armor.

Huh, okay, I'll take my soapbox and un-hijack your post. ;-)

They're not bad, are they?

I don't like the design of the costume either. It's meant to be retro, like the original Batgirl Barbara Gordon who is now Steph's right hand ... woman. But I prefer the old design which was all black with just the bottom portion of her face showing, and you couldn't see her hair. I guess the new costume represents a more fun and vibrant Batgirl. Still ... I'm not quite convinced.

Well the hair is a disadvantage--too easy to grab onto, it should be plaited or tucked under a hood like that black costume you described. But then it is a comic & I shouldn't get so analytical.

Hmmm, maybe I'll google the Barbara costume or is it wrong to envision sort of like her costume on the 60s show? I like the purple in this one, it's just ... yeah, already went over that didn't I. :-)

No, I completely agree with you and it is exactly what Batman (Dick Grayson, not Bruce Wayne) said to the new Batwoman.
