Stargate: Universe and Stuff

Oct 21, 2009 19:33

As some of you may know I haven't been online much recently due to my English Lit exam so I've missed a lot of chat, a lot of gossip and a truck load of fic and television. Therefore I declare myself absolutely blameless for not realising how fricking fantabulous Stargate: Universe is. I'm catching up with Skyplayer at the moment and just finished ( Read more... )

Yeah, SGU is much darker, but I like it. And Robert Carlyle is bloody freaking awesome as Rush. Though I sympathize with them. I mean, Jesus, no coffee?!?! It's a damn good thing Rodney isn't there.

One thing I heard is that a character is going to commit suicide, though maybe that was referencing the Senator. I dunno. And I heart Eli. His adorkability gives me the joy.

So, yeah, I love you.

I really like the dark atmosphere and the fractured command. I love the uncertainty of it all. It feels very ... grown up, like we've all moved from Stargate diapers up to Stargate Big Boy Pants.

I don't really know what I'm talking about. Love you too!

(And Eli rocks)

I haven't seen SGU:U but will give it a go. lunabee34 loves it too, and has written fic!

NICIS:LA is irritating the hell out of me, for several reasons. The oh-so-obvious flirtytalk between G and Sam? Please, give slashers some respect. There's NO real connection between the charas that I can see. The music is horrible, the scripts are ridiculous, and it makes no sense. Where are they getting the cases from; who's in charge?

I'll give it to them that the surroundings are pretty, but they're pretty in CSI:Miami too and that's less than wonderful.

Perhaps G should get a ginger dye-job. *g*

I really think you and the hubby would love SG:U. It's nothing like SG-1 or SGA, though. It's a different species, almost like Torchwood is to Doctor Who -- darker and for adults only.

I agree with everything you just said about NCIS: LA. I like slashy refs, but this feels like they're trying to hook us. It feels forced. It is just silly. I don't get that building they're in, I don't get the cases, I don't like that little woman and I just don't get them. They're NCIS, right? I don't actually see any evidence that's who they are apart from Vance on a big tv screen. They seem to get away with murder (almost)! There are a couple of things I like about it, but not enough to keep me watching for much longer. I watch it now because it's convenient to d/l along with NCIS, but if something else comes along, I'm gone.

Perhaps G should get a ginger dye-job. *g*

LMAO!

I hate music that tells me what to feel *cough*Juno*cough* rather than heightening what a scene already inspires.

That's it exactly! It's so irritating, isn't it?

It drives me nuts. Especially when there is NOTHING in the scene that actually merits any feeling at all.

LOL, quite right! I just don't get it. I mean, do they think there's more chance of us laughing with the weird plinky plonky music? Since when have you ever split your sides laughing over a piece of music? I centainly can't remember anyone busting a rib over the Top Twenty. Or how about that beethoven, he cracks me up! :oD

(LOVE your icon!)

Yay! More into the SGU fold. :)

There's a handful of fic comms now (not a lot of fic yet which is understandable given the amount of eps so far) and people are starting to make icons.

Just a word of warning: be prepared to meet heavy resistance and even hostility from the SGA fandom. I was surprised at the vehement dislike I found and as a result pulled back both from promoting SGU as a fandom and from SGA fandom. I've got a few locked posts about it, if you want a looksee.

Oooh, as soon as I get back from the Hub I'll have a search around for icons, I think. I'm definitely loving this show. So far it's been nothing but excellent.

Really? Wow, I wonder why that is. Do people feel that if it wasn't for SGU SGA would still be going? I LOVED SGA and Rodney is one of my all-time fav characters from any show, but the two shows are so different. I don't think there's much point comparing them. I'll def come and have a look at your LJ properly when I get back (I got home really late and I still need to pack! Eeek!)

Top priority on Monday is to find the SGU icons!

Rush is a character I think we're going to love to hate, while secretly envying. I adore Eli, but wow, they really did hit us over the head with the whole Audience-Self-Insert plank, right down to the 'You Are Here' tee he was wearing in the pilot. Egads. Yes, we know what your target audience is, there's no need to beat us to death with clue-by-fours.

I would have preferred them to be actually stranded out there, and not have the Body-Swap Rocks of Convenience immediately at hand.

Oh, and... what happened to all the secrecy? The senator's wife knows. Colonel Young's wife knows. They both received visits from bodyswapped people?!

And yes, I am still bitter about the cancellation of SGA, so that's not helping either. But I am watching. And trying not to snarl. :P

NCIS:LA... meh. It's pretty, and dumb, and I'll watch it until something better comes along or it gets too dumb. *g*

Oooh, I really liked Eli. He's got a kind and handsome face. And Rush I really love too. I love how they are all so fractured and you don't know quite whoes loyalties lie where, because I guess they don't really have any yet. I just love the tension! It feels a bit more ... BSG.

Now, I'm not sure how I feel about those Body-swap rocks. Or the lack of secrecy. Those, I think, are my only two quibbles.

~pets~ I miss Rodney, too, but at the same time I like the continuation of the verse because it helps me believe Rodney is still off out there somewhere with John tucked up in his bed. ~happy sigh~ I do wish they hadn't cancelled SGA, but at least we know he's okay and now they can't do anything stupid like infect him with a deadly virus that kills him within seconds while John holds him ... Oh go away, Torchwood Trauma! :oD

NCIS:LA... meh. It's pretty, and dumb, and I'll watch it until something ( ... )
