The Eleventh Doctor

Matt Smith is the new Doctor. I can't say I know him at all and I'm rather disturbed by his lack of eyebrows, but he's got that quirky look I was hoping for. He's young, though, which is rather worrying.

BUT, I shall give him a fair chance. Despite his age and the eyebrow issue, he does have great hair. Hurrah for Eleven!

I'm very hopeful for him. He's young but he's been in some quality TV and stage stuff and apparently got good reviews so he can act. Could be he's better known and respected inside the industry than out. At least he's a new face, and an interesting one!

Someone said they wanted to cast someone who looked like Edward in Twilight for the fangirls. LOL!

Yes, he's definitely interesting to look at! I have a few worries about him, but I think that would be true of whoever they cast. Unless it was Colin Firth. That would have been fine. ~bg~

But seriously, he seems like he's a talented actor and I'm willing to see what's in store.

My main worry is his age. I need to feel that I could put my life in the Doctor's hands. That's part of the attraction for me. That's what makes him my hero and that's one of the many reasons I hated Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy. I couldn't believe in them like that. Will I be able to believe in a man that looks like a teenager?

Peter Davidson was the youngest Doctor before now, and he was only three years older. Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy just didn't have the acting chops to make us believe in them as the Doctor. No reason to believe Matt won't, until we see him. He has good experience so may well have the tools to pull us in. Age isn't a pointer to talent or charisma.

I'm very inclined to give him a chance.

He's frighteningly young. I can't get used to it. I just know that his first few minutes onscreen, I'm going to keep mistaking him for the Companion instead of the Doctor, even though I know better.

But I'm willing to give him a chance. Even if his hair looks like David Tennant's had a wild weekend with Robert Pattison's and then they abandoned their offspring on his head.

Yes, I agree. It's rather disconcerting. I'll be interested to see how they tackle that problem, because it is a problem. The companions and the audience need to believe in the Doctor and I think his age makes that difficult.

Still, I have faith in the DW writing team.

LMAO!

One thing I like about him being so young is that I've become enamoured of the idea that his Companion will be played by an actress old enough to be Matt Smith's mum. I'd really love it if the Doctor and his Companion had a parent/child dynamic (that used to be the norm, damn it! Subverting the norm by reversing it would be really neat!) and personally, I'm getting really sick of Companions who're in love with him.

Yes, I agree, that would make an interesting dynamic.

I nearly stopped watching season 3 because of that.

Hee! I love him, despite the youth and the no-eyebrows thing. I think he's got the quirkiness required, as you say. Yay!!

Exactly! Yay! He's off to a good start already. It concerns me that he's so young, but it's all going to come down to how they characterise this version of the Doctor.

I have hope and think it's a good thing he's not well known.

Yes, I agree. In all seriousness, I don't really want to be reminded of another character while I'm trying to get used to the new Doctor. There are a few exceptions, I'm sure, but generally, unknown is better.

I have to say, when I saw your icon, my first thought? He looks like Tom Riddle from the Chamber of Secrets... Trying to stop myself of thinking of Voldemort with a TARDIS... It isn't pretty...
