Days were long in Budehuck, and Seed hadn't been so aimless in years... to be honest, he didn't remember the last time his life had been so empty and uneventful. He had worked in the fields at a young age, then when he was tall enough to ride, had taken over herding the farm's grazing animals... after that, it had been the army. He had loved the military life, and rarely used his leave, unless it was to travel back home... but that had only been a few days at a time.
Here, time stretched on, and he felt useless. He had avoided Camus today, but almost regretted it. Arguing with the Matilda knight would have helped relieve some of his tension.
He pondered heading straight to the tavern, and ordering ale until he forgot what day it was. But instead he wandered around the castle grounds aimlessly. Until he saw a very familiar figure on the ship's deck.
Queen Jillia.Seed wasn't sure what to do... he could deal with soldiers easily, but young women confused him
( ... )
The dark haired girl heard the familiar voice of Seed and she frowned, knowing he would probably get angry with her. Gently, she moved her legs around and turning towards Seed and her hands edged to the sides of her body. A part of her wished that he wouldn't be formal, she was just lucky to get the title of Princess without being treated like one. Gently, she beckoned him forward with one hand so he would have to stand directly in front of her.
"Hello, Seed." Jillia moved her legs inwards, she felt a little more reclusive than usual.
Although she was unhappy, she politely smiled at Seed,"How have you been, I trust well?" Her head tilted, black hair veiling part of her face.
This was exactly why Culgan would have been better suited for this. Seed couldn't even claim to know Jillia very well, he was away at war most of the time, and was, at best, tolerated in court function.
He felt boorish and unsure. What could he say to her, really? She had lost everything, at such a young age.
"I am doing well, thank you for asking", he answered formally, trying to mind his manners and his language, "I wanted to see how you were doing, but I wasn't sure you'd enjoy my company."
Jillia reached forward, her hand moving to reach down and she took his hand and pulled him closer to her front. A sigh passed through her mouth and she wrapped her arms around his shoulders, head hidden in the crook of his throat and shoulder,"Seed..." Another sigh and she clutched the white fabric against his back and pulled him closer, her legs on either side of his hips.
Seed froze instantly, as Jillia pressed herself against him. She was Highland's beloved princess -Queen, he reminded himself, Queen now- and while he had spent hours guarding the door of her room when he was younger and she was but a girl, he had never really been this close to her.
Oh, he had caught her a fw times as she tried to sneak down the hall and dragged her back to her room slung unceremoniously under his arm like a newborn calf... but it wasn't the same.
If Luca were to turn the corner... he'd be dead. But Luca wasn't here, and neither was Agares nor Jowy. Or Culgan for that matter. That only left... him.
Seed looked left and right, making sure that Luca was nowhere to be seen, and decided that, for once, maybe it wouldn't be too bad to indulge her.
Wrapping his arms around her gingerly, as if she would break at the slightest touch, he tried to soothe her. "It's all right, everything will be all right."
Jillia frowned, she had truly no one and Seed made it all the more difficult for her. He was cold, unloving and unaffectionate and if she was going to find any comfort? This is all she was going to get. It wasn't until his own arms wrapped around her that she finally broke down. Jillia's lithe arms tugged him forward, clutching him tightly,"..Why did no one care for me, Seed? Everyone I knew just treats me like I don't have feelings. You do not really wish to even be with me, do you?" Jillia clutched the fabric on the back of his coat, refusing to let go.
Even though she knew, or so she thought, that he would rather not be with her, she held a fool's hope that he wouldn't say it aloud. It appeared that all she wanted was someone to give a damn and not use her for their own personal means, not for giving away, not for a sacrifice and not to do things she didn't want to do for the "sake of the kingdom." or something else.
Luca had just been passing by the dock area of the castle after many weeks of treatment at the infirmary. There was no particular reason for Luca to be here - he had just finished an argument with Rahal, and he needed an excuse to get away from him, or anyone else for that matter. That was until he heard a familiar voice... was it Seed?
"Heh... How can he be so carefree in a time like this?" As he looked up, the sun's hot gaze blinded his eyes for a short while. He squinted his eyes to get a better look at the figure up top. "A woman, eh? What a waste o--" Luca had stopped himself dead after recognizing the familiar design on the woman's dress. He wasn't sure whether to feel relieved or hatred, but his hand clenched into a fist tight enough to draw blood from his palm.
Seed was completely taken aback. He had protected and served and died for Jillia, but that seemed natural to him, and easy. She had been his Princess, and became his Queen, it's just what was owed to her.
All this talking, on the other hand, was hard. There was a reason he avoided social functions where he was expected to count forks and have meaningful discussions with young ladies.
"My Queen, I think you're just... upset... and exaggerating the..." Seed cut himself short, going in this direction would just cause more problems, so he shifted gears, a little lamely, "Many people do care you about you. Your whole country loves you."
