Okay, was trying not to come to you guys with all of these...but now that I'm more confident in doing readings without books/cheat-sheets. I'm looking more at *how* I read the runes ( Read more... )

It depends. I ask three distinct questions, one rune a piece, so it is different for me. But, I do always take the three into account for a general statement about the omen as a whole.

If you are pulling more than one rune for the same questions, you may want to try your hand at casting. You can do it without using the whole set. Put your hand in the bag, count out three runes, and then toss them gently onto a cloth or towel. Some people use a fur. Look at the positioning to add more dimension to the reading. Are two runes close together but one far away? If so, what do those teo have in common? Is one upside down? (Berkano upside down could be hidden growth, etc.) Seeing the relationships between the runes is a huge growing experience.

Yeah, I read them out of order sometimes.

I don't do the whole past, present, future thing. Rather I just look at the three and try to get a clear idea.

It also depends on the question. Hagalaz, at least for me represents short term disruption that brings something better in the long run. Fehu is usually money (and to an extent, jobs), Berkano is fertility, new beginnings, and feminine stuff, not so much relationships. The relationship rune is Ehwaz, and also to an extent Gebo.

One could look at this as losing a present job, but getting a much better one later.

I interpreted Berkano as relationship, because it's kinda what the question was about... I dunno, I could be wrong still.

Well if the question was about a relationship, Berkano could represent a new beginning or a feminine influence, perhaps a female love interest. But I'm guessing that a new beginning is a better bet ( ... )

o.0 That's a lot to think about. And you're right...the trick is to figure it out.

The question is regarding a friend and his crush. They've had a really close friendship for years...and it's now getting somewhat romantic. However, she's in a relationship and is planning to leave that one for him. I get bad vibes all over the place from her. I've even draw Hagalaz multiple times in regards to her. So it actually does kinda make sence, they have a good relationship right now and are trying for something more...

Thing is though, this reading works for both parties (him and her AND him and me). She disrupted our relationship, he's disrupting her and her fiance and I think she's going to break his heart.

Really, it's just messed up and I'm trying to gain clarity on it and see whether or not she's going to hurt him because I can't shake this feeling in my gut everytime I hear something about her, or hear her voice and I'm not the only one.

I'd probably say that you've got a crossroads here: be generous or be stingy. Generosity leads to fertility and joy, and stinginess leads to destruction.

I say that mostly because of the dual nature of Fehu. . . and the odd opposition of the other two.

Interesting...so you're using Berkano as a hinge of sorts?

I clearly have lots to consider and learn. My head is spinning...but at the same time, I can feel an underlying understand. If that makes any sense.

I'm currently reading the layout portion of Taking Up The Runes to see what I get out of that as well.

Sort of. Though really the hinge is with Fehu, in this case. . . and, speaking from a past/present/future mode, also where the decision initially rested. I'd say that it's a warning to view how you have used your wealth, and maybe a notion of "change now before it's too late!" if you chose the path of stinginess and destruction.
