(And, for a public note on this: I already mentioned privately to this user that feedback was probably the better place, and I believe she has also gone there, but I also thought that a group discussion about the user benefits of Give More, in a place that wasn't news, might be worthwhile.)

I already posted about this in my own journal (albeit in a locked entry), but... while I think that we should have Give More reinstated since it puts all of the burden back on the giver instead of forcing the recipient to go out of their way, it should come with certain restrictions:

1. It can NOT be used towards the purchaser's own journal. Period.

2. The restriction can also be extended to exclude Paid and Permanent accounts, since I think the idea was to offer Paid time to accounts that didn't already have it. However, this one can be debatable.

3. It can only be used to purchase a full year's worth of Paid time, to go with the full year's worth of the extra userpic add-on space. (I was surprised to find that this wasn't the case to begin with, and it makes sense to me to just buy the full year.)

I think I had others, but I'm not recalling them offhand. Also, I did send a verbatim copypasta of my entry to Feedback so that they could review my suggestions.

Well, in regards to the apparent objection to people buying the accounts for less than a year, I was hearing that the recipients weren't necessarily bothering to renew their Paid accounts after they expired. It also doesn't make a lot of sense (to me, anyway) to purchase a Paid account for, say, two months with LJ footing the cost of a full-year's worth of userpic add-on space. It would be a waste of revenue on LJ's part (not a whole lot, granted, but it does add up), and a waste for the giver if the recipient wasn't able nor willing to take full advantage of the userpic add-on. (Granted, that wouldn't be the case if the recipient did, in fact, manage to pay for the rest of the year

No. It's LJ's choice to offer a holiday promotion that loses them money. It is not up to us to decide how we are going to get more from them than we pay for. I don't know anything official, but from what I've seen, Give More was heavily abused by people who were going to buy paid time anyway, and there's no sense in giving away that much free userpic space year after year after year.

I would really love to see this promotion again.
