Every day, I log in, and I wonder WHY it remains.

The cake will go AWAY.

Don't you really mean, "The cake will be a lie"?

Sorry, had to say it. XD And it probably won't make sense to those who have never heard of the game Portal, so... XD

Cake or death is not appearing in this film.

Yes it is. montecristo November 23 2009, 23:01:12 UTC
Don't you worry about the consequences of no longer supporting the alternative to death?!

I'm guessing it'll go away in January, when LJ's 10th birthday is over. I don't see what the problem is? It's only a month left, and it's been up for less than a year. o_O

Not trying to be combative here, but how does one decide when a birthday is "over"? As an analogy, how long do the holiday theme banners stay up? maybe a month? Definitely not until the next holiday. And the LJbirthday itself was in April, are we going to have this banner up until next April?

If you get to eat birthday cake every day, it's no longer special when you get it on your actual birthday :)

Companies generally celebrate their birthdays all year, at least when they're milestones like this one. Our company last year did a 50th anniversary celebration all year, and our technical "birthday" wasn't until December 31st. LJ isn't a person, it's a company, and that's just what companies do. \o_O/

Yes please.

Also, another problem might be that "marketing won't get the full mileage out of their anniversary gimmick".

Actually, I would love to be able to opt-out of all the special-occasion banners, or even just the option to opt-out of the current one. There are some holidays I don't celebrate, and I don't want that holiday banner on my LJ.
